Currently, only about .6% currently serve between all branches and the Guard/Reserve.

About 10% qualify to serve. This is the generally recognized historical figue based on the last draft.

I would guess about 20% could be used over all when you factor out all the draft dodgers and minor draft disqualifications like acne.

Every able bodied person between the ages of 18 and whatever have "what it takes". It's just whether or not they feel the need to join. Right now less than 1% of the population of the United States wears a military uniform.

Currently about 10% of Americans have served or are serving now out of a population of 360 million people. Prefect example of this is the Presidental canidates. Of the nearly 20 running only Mc Cain, & I think Biden & Hunter have any past service. If you think of post baby boomers, the numbers really drop.

If you mean how many have the tallent, brains, the desire & physical skills??? About 30% sounds right.

Most all do in some capacity. The percentage actually in combat roles is slim.

The rest? Same as in any job. You show up for work, do what you have to and go home..... just like civilian life. The only real difference is if you say "my boss blows" you have to back it up. You can't sue or anything so you are forced to look at yourself. A lot of people can't handle that.

I think a strong percentage of Americans "have what is takes" when it comes to something that is worthy of people. The real quiestion is "is it worth it"? To kill and cause destruction from orders of the politicians and then dress it all up with words of "liberty. freedom and patriotism" is unjust. I think it is one of the biggest and unnoticable crimes of humanity. I realize that it is somewhat a free country, and you have the choice to sign up for the military or not. I just find it a deadly mistake

I don't know, who could know? Since we have a volunteer military, I guess the best barometer is the number who have joined the military and the number who haven't joined the military. If a young man or woman won't join the military when they are of sound mind and body, then they haven't got what it takes do they?

1%. I say this because it takes more dedication to others and self control that the average 18 year old in America possess. To remain drug free and willing to give your life. Walk the mall, most kids today are more into getting a IPOD phone, and Abacromie and Fitch shirt and buzz at the next keg party. Additionally, we don't want a draft, only men and woman who are willing to volunteer and have the morals and standards to be trustworthy in battle need apply. Our Marines will do what ever the commander and chief asks of them, and they also willingly protect fellow warriors in battle, they are a group of individuals that will do whatever it takes to protect America. Yes, it's only 1%, not like previous generations. But that 1% are a variety of nationalities, religions, genders and they represent the best of our country.

Has what it takes? I think if your able bodied and have a relatively good head on your shoulders then you qualify for at least one branch of the military. I'm not quite sure if we want those people though, a full volunteer force makes for better morale.
