If your cat is infested with fleas, it will take more than just treating your pet for parasites to effectively deal with the problem. Simply ridding your cat of the adult fleas that are living on it at the time will not put an end to the infestation, as eggs will still be present in the surrounding environment. These eggs will eventually hatch and adult fleas will infest your cat once again. In order to treat your household, it helps to vacuum regularly. When doing so, make sure to cover all surfaces where there could be eggs, including on upholstered furniture, under cushions, under furniture, and along baseboards. It's also important to discard any bedding that is thoroughly infested and to keep other bedding clean. This can be done by washing the bedding in hot water, followed by a long and hot cycle in the dryer.
In order to get rid of the fleas living on your cat and to treat the irritating symptoms of flea bites, there are a number of treatments available. Some traditional forms of treatment include anti-flea medications and medicated shampoos. There are also all-natural products available that can be used to prevent and treat cat fleas. Homeopathic treatments utilize a variety of natural ingredients to achieve quality results. Natural substances that may be found in such products include pennyroyal and neem, which act as natural insecticides. Furthermore, sweet mace and lemongrass oil act as insect repellents while rosemary and aloe soothe the skin and reduce inflammation. No matter what type of treatment you prefer to use, it's always a good idea to consult with a veterinarian first in order to ensure the best possible results for you and your pet.

What treatment did you use from the vet exactly? You need to be a veterinary spot-on regularly, and you need to be making sure it gets on the skin of your animal, not his fur. Very important. You also need to use this monthly, depending on what treatment it is - I recommend Frontline Plus because it kills the eggs and pupae as well as the adult fleas. Advantage and Revolution are also good flea treaments - just do not use ANYTHING from a store, I expect your vet told you that - these products don't work and, as one answerer said, are often toxic.
The same goes for housesprays - you need a GOOD one, an not just a general insecticide, a proper flea killer. I recommend Skoosh, the only spray that kills adult fleas, eggs and larvae, and it does it mechanically rather than chemically, by coating them all with some silicone like substance. Have a look on www.skooshthefleas.com to see where you can get it.
Yes, it can be really hard to beat a flea infestation. You can be using all the products you know of, but if they're the wrong ones, or you're using them the wrong way, you're not going to get anywhere. You have three stages of lifecycle to break, and you have to do that for both your cat and your house.

What flea treatment was used? The best kind for an infestation of fleas on the cat is frontline. This kind kills not only fleas but also the eggs. Most flea treatments don't kill eggs and so the eggs hatch every little bit and the fleas are renewed again.
Frontline is a liquid that you put under the hair on the skin between the shoulder blades only. It takes 24 hours for you to see the fleas dieing and dropping off and if the problem persists then repeat the treatment within 2 weeks.
My cats (particularly one) had a major flea problem and we used the frontline on him on Satuday and today I can't find a flea on him.

Has the vet checked ur cats immune system... Just like a predator, fleas will prey on the weak. If ur cat is good, then maybe the flea medicine needs a higher dosage or u need to change the medicine.

Treat and retreat your home and yard. You can get a pill called a Capstar from your veterinary clinic. The Capstar will kill any fleas on your cat within 30 minutes. It's only good for 24 hours and won't kill any eggs.
What kind of flea medication did you get from the vet? Sometimes you have to try a few different ones to find one that works for your pet.
I always recommend Revolution. I've tried Frontline on my cats and it has never worked for us.

There is something that works wonders, and really really works. Have your home sprayed for spiders, and ants etc. My animals in 3 different homes that I have sprayed are literally flea free, as well as NO ITCHING at all... It probably kills those nasty mites in carpets that can cause their itchy chewing. I would guess that you would have to take your cat to get them killed prior. I swear this works..
I had a friend that used hartz flea killer (the kind you put on their back) she used this on all of her animals and the ALL got seriously ill and one cat died from it. That stuff is poisen. You should read about anything that you put on them..
They have those petsmart petco animal grooming and it's really fairly affordable. Maybe you cat can get a flea bath..
good luck

Buy a flea comb. Sit down with a cup of water and comb them off, put them into the cup and comb it's entire body. When finished flush the water down the toilet and do this once a day until you get most of them gone to get them under control, then keep up the flea meds.

I'm have two dogs and two cats who live in harmony together and are in and out of my house. I give them FLEA treats and to control the carpets i sprinkle old fashion BORAX powder evenly then vacuum it up in the evening. It dries the fleas and eggs within the carpet. Best of luck
