on the history channel, I watched this program about the last of the godfathers mob familes in italy apparent like years ago 80's 70's the last of the biggest crime familys came to an end in italy their was lots of destruction going on because of war between the familys the police didnt and couldnt do nothin, they were never cought, then the pope said during that that let these crime families repent or let Gods hand punish them, after the popes speech one by one the God fathers of the crime familes were arrested until all of them were caught or killed. I thought that was kind of weird that they were gettin away with all that until the pope said somethin, then all of a sudden they all fell makes no sense , a long time ago during the templer age, the templers were all executed , before the leader of the templers were executed his last words to the pope and king was in 2 days I shall see you both at a tribunal before God. in 2 days time both the king and pope died,

There is still a lot of organized crime in Italy. The families are still there.

The History Channel tries to make stories interesting by giving you the most interesting facts. Sometimes the facts are 'legend' and they'll even tell you that but then go on talking about them as if they were true.

The mob families were active in Sicily for hundreds of years, and before that there were more mobs. Organized crime in Italy is at least 1000 years old. Some popes denounced it, some cooperated, in fact some popes were put into power by organized crime. To say that one pope denounced the mob and then the mob ended is like looking at the predictions of a psychic and picking just the 1% that came true.

Also a lot of 'predictions' are made after the fact. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus predicts the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, which happened in 70 AD, years after Jesus died. But the Gospel of Mark was written -after- 70 AD.

Yes it a bit strange but those two statements may not have been the casual factor(s). For instance, we don't know what the health of the pope and the king were at the time, and we also don't know how many of the Templars were actually captured - their fleet was never taken, so one or more of them could have assassinated the king and pope.

Edit:
Agree with a answer above. Not everything on the history channel is actually history, some to many of the shows are often opinion or "souped up" for viewing entertainment. You should always verify what you saw with reliable sources.

I watched the same program, i think it had more to do with the F.B.I stepping up their investigations of organized crime to an unprecedented level than it did with the pope condemning it.
