Ok, so for me, I had a terrible experience, but on paper, I had a text book, fabulous birth. I shouldn't really be aloud to complain, it really was a good birth, but the fact was for me, afterwards I felt traumatised, to the point where I dont really ever want to go through birth again (even though I know I will have to) Nora was born in 8.5 hours, my labour came on strong and fast, contractions every 2 mins lasting for as long as a min. When it came to pushing, I had gas and air, turned away an epi when the antsiest came (even though i asked for one!) and pushed for about an hour. No stitches, no tears, just grazes... like I say, on paper, its a brilliant birth. Where it became traumatic for me was that I suffered for 9 weeks afterwards. I couldn't walk without pain, peeing hurt for 8 weeks, and 3 doctors and 2 midwives promised and swore black and blue that there was nothing physically wrong with my bits, so why the pain? I guess I will never know. All my friends, some who had 3rd and 2nd degree tears, were up and about (and some having sex!) within 2 weeks. I have a wonderful daughter, and she was worth every second, but I look back on the pain I had and it horrifies me. I think that a "good" birth experience is possible, and I might have one 2nd time around, but I dont kid myself that i will always be traumatised when it comes to recovering from giving birth.

A drain being removed from behind my nipple which had just been reattached.
I thought I was going to meet my maker.
I was screaming the place down and had to be restrained and I was on a shedload of morphine.

I've had a ruptured bladder that hurt really bad- shock kicked in shortly after then passed out so didn't have to endure this too long.
Also I had tubes put in my peritoneal cavity then alcohol injected into the tubes which hurt pretty bad as well.

Mine was when the drug cupboard was locked and the key holder had gone out! The doctor had to cut through my finger to the bone to drain out a very bad infection - if he had not done it immediately I would have lost my finger. (I only had a splinter to start with, just a teeny weeny bit of a rose thorn - ouch and double ouch).

Having a needle pushed through my knee without anaesthetic.
I found out later that the doctor had gone in from the wrong side of the knee.
He permanently disabled me.

Surgery just about.................

A root canal without pain relief, so badly infected I couldn't bear the idea of waiting seven days for antibiotics to possibly clear it.

I had tears rolling down my face within seconds, but the relief afterwards within about two hours was amazing.

when my daughter had major bowel surgery during pregnancy last yr they put an epidural in before op as it was only pain relief they wanted her to have. when she woke it was in wrong place and was not numbing site of op, had to take her back to theatre to re-site the epidural on no pain relief, she has high level of pain tolerance but says she was screaming in agony, i cant imagine what the poor girl went thru.
