my confusion lies in the fact that he tells me "I just don't understand how it is" and how he is different when he is home. Do they downgrade and talk bad about their wifes and girlfriends, to make them look good? He also tells me they have to watch what they say when women are working on the site with them, cuz of the sexual harrasment stuff, even though it isn't directed at them, it's what is said around them? I previously posted a question, just wasnt' sure how to add to that....Im a newbe !!!

Men say and do stupid things when they are around each other. In the act of trying to make yourself look better, they feel like they have to downgrade everyone else. My fiance and his dad are construction workers and I think that it is the worst place for a man to be. So much competition and male pride to compete with. The one thing that him or his dad will not do though, is degrade me or his mom. I will not stand up for it and neither will they.

Men behave differently when they are together. Don't take any of it personal.
I have worked around construction sites and found it very amusing when the guys would get into contests over who had the worse wife. Especially when I knew that what they said did not even come close to their home life. It's just a fun game they play and is harmless.
So is wolf-whistling at pretty girls that walk by. No one expects a positive response, but their buddies get a kick out of it.
The behaviour stops as soon as they realize a woman is nearby. I always feel like a monster when I show up as I know that the fun and games are over until I leave.
Remember, construction isn't a fun job and anything that lightens the mood is a positive thing.

I know that construction sites are prone to bad behavior by male employees. Everything from bad language towards each other and others around (i'm sure this would include spouses, depending on the individual). My ex told me that he worked with a guy that the crew always called "******". The guy eventually got fed up and quit.

I have worked construction before and we all act like a badass. There is a lot of cursing, lewd jokes, etc. that we leave at the job site when it's quitting time. Just accept that it's part of the lifestyle.

It's a man thing. They are trying to be funny. One man calls his wife the "wash woman" but he loves her very much. She is beautiful, smart and she loves him. Men like to get a woman's feathers up for some reason.
