If you need one prescription for distance and another for reading then yes, you may need bifocals.
I have a slight astigmatism, which can be corrected for distance, but my distance vision is generally very good, so I only get reading glasses. When I get bifocals it's not worth it - too much correction going on for too little difference. And they make me dizzy.
Maybe try some drug store reading glasses and ditch your doctor-prescribed glasses for awhile if you don't really need them. When I had distance vision glasses I found that they brought everything into really sharp focus, but when I took them off everything was blurry for awhile which I didn't like. But since I never wear them now, I can see at distance fine. Your prescription is very weak, so this may work for you.
I get prescription reading glasses every year, but I have drug store reading glasses all over the house, too.
One more thing - I like weaker reading glasses for computer work since the monitor is further away than something I would be holding to read.

Actually bifocals due tend to effect the elderly more then the youth. Bifocals are used to help correct Presbyopia as stated here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bifocals, and presbyopia according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presbyopia has a meaning of "old person" coming from the Greek word "presbys". As wikipedia states bifocals are used when the eye's ability to focus diminishes and this occurs as the crystalline lens loses its elasticity over time. So in fact bifocals are more common among the elderly, however this does not mean that you do not need bifocal lenses because there are still plenty of people out there who are Young that require them. My advice to you would be to go see you eye care provider and get your eyes tested.
Hopefully this information helps.

It's possible, but it would be unusual.
If you are of asian origin it would be less surprising, as accommodatiion difficulties do come earlier with some ethnic groups.
It's more probable that you are simply more long-sighted than than your +1.25 glasses have made allowance for.
"latent hypermetropia" is a somewhat old-fashioned term for this.
It would mean you have been using some of your reading reserves to set up your distance vision leaving you, as you're now discovering, short on focussing ability for near.
If you've been doing this for years the muscles can "cramp" or partially "set" in that mode, and this won't always show on a standard eye test, unless it has been performed with eye-drops to temporarily paralyse the ciliary muscle (drops stronger than those just used to dilate the pupil).
Get a cycloplegic refraction (The technical term)
It might avoid you needing bifocals for another fifteen years.

You might want to consider a pair of non-prescription reading glasses. Take an example of the letters you are having a hard time seeing well, and go to a store that sells them. Try on pairs of different strengths until you find a pair that makes the letters easily readable. Good luck.

Yes it looks like you need bifocals as you require two presciptions in the one set of glasses.
Age has nothing to do with wearing or requiring bifocals it is because your eyes need two different types of lenses to focus properly.

I dont think you need them yet, but I have coke bottle thick glasses. If what I am typing looks like ants going across your screen than I say you are in bi-focal range.
Is this annoying? Is it better like this, or this, this or this. DOES IT HURT WHEN I POKE YOUR EYE OUT? THIS FINGER OR THAT FINGER.
