Don't lean back too far, more pull the bike up towards you with a bit of power to lift the front end. Keep moving ahead at the same speed that the front end wants to fall at! Then the bike will stay upright. You just have to practice your balance. Only experience will help you.

Add your rear brake to the equation.

It's a balancing act between brake, shifting your weight and later moving in the direction you want to go.

Try a simple progression.

First put your front wheel up on a box - practice being comfortable siting still with both brakes on.

Next try to lift your front wheel and hold it. You have to find the point where you and your bike are balanced, if you pull on your rear brake you will fall forward. If you don't counter your shift in body weight with your brake you will fall back.

Once you find that magic point of balance you will get better at recognizing it and finding it automatically. But to first find the point tuned brakes are a must.
