I was raised in Pittsburgh Pa. and the only thing between me being called an American is the citizenship. I heard that if you stayed in the states for 5 years, you were entitled to citizenship. Problem is that I was so young then and my dad didn't apply for it. Today I just got a 5 year visa to enter the US. I am so happy. The US to me is like my home. People where I live don't consider me anything except American. I sleep, eat, drink and feel American.
I have an American brother and sister who were born there too. My brother is living there now. I really envy him.

Thanks for all the replies but I really need a legal point of view if possible. I have a good steady job where I am now and I wouldn't want to lose it for a dream. I teach English. Can you believe that I still remember the pledge of Allegiance of the US and I don't know my native country's? :-)

lol, it's not all that easy as you think. Your dad have to sponsor you which if you are over 21 will take about 6 yrs. If you had your green card and under 18 when your dad got his citizenship then you would be an American citizen and could just apply for a certification and then passport

quite, there is not any such element as a Cherokee citizenship, it is because they are not a separate and sovereign united states of america. Is it plausible that you'll qualify as a tribal member? perchance. First your tremendous-grandmother might want to might want to be a documented descendant. provided that there are 3 federally recognized tribes, with distinct regulations, you'll might want to be slightly extra sparkling as to which one you would possibly want to be claiming. or you would possibly want to declare a state recognized tribal club. For the Cherokee united states of america, you'll might want to be descended from someone on the Dawes Rolls. For the eastern Band, this is the Baker Rolls. For the Keetowah, this is a million/4th, so that you does no longer qualify.

With a five year visa, that puts you in a good position to become a naturalized citizen. My guess, from what you've said here, is that you will become an American citizen.
