I think it is more of an indication of how insecure the person is if they are always looking for that "thumbs up" validation.

I think many people do that for reality checking... if the answerer thought it was a witty answer, did others "get it." That kind of thing... it can be a way to guage how effectively we are communicating versus being self-absorbed.

Lol, I mostly go back to do a thumbs-up run on the questions I've answered. But besides filling time, that does allow me to see how appreciated I am. :D
