I lost touch with a very good friend ten years ago. I helped save his life and get him sober and clean. Not as a girlfriend or a sexual thing, but as the best friend of his very troubled girlfriend. I am thinking of him but he has a very common name so it is difficult to find him. Is there a website or service that helps people find servicemen who are no longer on active duty?

Military dot com is one where you can list a message seeking someone.

It is possible... more-so if he is still in the Military. Each branch of the Military has what they call a Military Locator Office. Phone numbers are available in the Govt "Blue Pages" Directory for Washington DC. But I'm not certain how much information a Military Locator Office might be allowed to divulge to civillians. Maybe they can if you were to provide written documentation of your identity and purpose.

Another possible lead would be if he has membership in a Veteran Service Organization, such as Vietnam Veterans Of America, American Legion, VFW, etc.

Many Military Units ( Ships, Squadrons, Divisions, Etc ) have created their own Charter Associations and have websites where former Service Members are enrolled and listed: ( ie. USS Nitro Association, etc. )

Through these means I was able to make contact with some of the guys I had served with 20 years prior.

Try/join this website. It is pretty awesome for looking up old shipmates. The site is still pretty new but has thousands of members already and still growing.

Additionally, many ship websites have veteran links.
