A license key is issued by the software manufacturer to a legal piece of software. If a license key is invalid, it means you have an illegal piece of software and are trying to either install it or make it work without a legal key. You can't do that.

A license key is a serial number that is uniquely attached to pieces of software. Invalid means you are trying to enter a key that has been used already or a key that does not work with your product (wrong type of key).

A license key is a string of usually numbers and letters that are unique to your purchase of a piece of software. If it says a key is invalid, the key is probably pirated. If not, contact the company.

It's a serial number necessary to get software to work. When an invalid one is encountered, it means that your software will not work until you get a valid one.
