Hi Latisha,

congratulations on your engagement.

yes it is legal, no problem at all...
you may purchase up to 5 grams and smoke it in the coffeeshop or in your home. You usually may not smoke it in restaurants or regular bars or hotels, but if you find a nice place in a park somewhere you probably won't have any problems. You could always ask people if it's ok to smoke there... Many people in the Netherlands smoke special cigarettes and it's not a big taboo or aything like that, maybe a small taboo in certain circles. They will appreciate you asking before just lighting up...

I hope this helps, if you have any more questions please let us know!

----edit----

Practically it IS legal. You will not and cannot get fined, arrested or prosecuted for purchasing, possesing or smoking 5 grams or less of Marijuanna or Hashish in the Netherlands. Only if you smoke it where it's not allowed could you get in trouble and in most cases you'll just be asked to put it out. Who cares about technicallities... I'm not even convinced that technically it would be illegal but I'm not a lawyer...

stating that the police are not enforcing the rules/laws concerning softdrugs is total rubbish. You try buying any when underage or growing some in your home and find out how much the police enforce the rules/laws and how much trouble you can get into in the Netherlands... Quite a lot I assure you (although not from personal first-hand experience!)

I was just in Amsterdam. We took a tour and were very clearly told it is perfectly legal to smoke weed anywhere you want, just don't try to take it out of the country. I was of the misunderstanding that the drugs and prostitution were all in the "red Light" district and unfortunately I had my 13 year old daughter with me who got quite an eyeful in the city. You can go to any coffee shop and some weed, you smell it everywhere.
We also saw the house where Anne Frank hid for all those years during the war- it was very moving. Also they have canal tours which woud be really romantic. we didn't much enjoy the city, but again, I'm sure we would have had we not been uncomfortable because of all the porn my daughter kept being exposed to.
Have fun!!!!

While technically not legal - the police don`t really bother you unless you smoke where not allowed.

Best option - if you want to smoke in peace - is to go to a coffeeshop you think is cool - and smoke there.
Don`t try to take any through the airport - as that is a sure way to get in trouble.

Now - for the inevitable sermon - do you want to hang out with a drug user? Whatever floats your boat, i guess.. but be warned. (end sermon)

Who you choose to spend the rest your life with and what you do with your recreational time is your business. However, your fiancee is centering his whole trip to anywhere in the world around smoking. You may want to consider this a red flag before you actually marry him.

As for your question, I am not an expert on the topic, but I will offer this. "Soft' drugs, such as marijuana, are legal in the Netherlands. However, transporting it from wherever you are to Amsterdam is not. Therefore, you can probably expect to pay a pretty significant price for smoking.

Hypnotist. It worked for my grandmother, She had a funeral to circulate to and had under no circumstances been on a airplane in her seventy 5 years of existence. The hypnotist no longer basically helped her along with her subconscious concern yet, she looked like the main comfortable guy or woman on the airplane. She basically had time for 2 classes yet to my disbelief it became properly worth it.

Technically it's not legal, but the police have not enforced the laws concerning soft drugs for a long time. There are lots of coffee shops where one can indulge, but you can't smoke it in a pub.

If you're like most tourists and spend time smoking in coffeeshops, yes, you can do it and be left alone and not worry.
