Semantic answer: Dependents are only claimed on your tax return, which does not affect withholdings. Withholdings are affected only by your W-4, on which you report only a total number of "exemptions", and not how many are for dependents.
Real answer: If you claim more exemptions on your W-4, less tax is withheld. To have more tax withheld, you claim fewer or zero exemptions on your W-4.

You can either claim less exemptions on Line 5 (W4 form) or indicate a dollar amount on Line 6 (W4 form). Your payroll office should have these forms. You can always change your tax withholdings by completing a new W4 form for the federal and state.
