If you are born in America, you will be called as American. If you have migrated and stayed there for more than 5 years then you will be called as citizen of America.

When you are a naturalized citizen, you can consider yourself an American. There is nothing shameful about being a legal immigrant, it's the people who are trying to make others see "legal immigrants" and "illegal aliens" as the same thing that have created any perception that it IS shameful and that is entirely unfair to our legal immigrants.
Legal immigrants are wonderful people and great potential Americans who respect our laws and work within them.
Illegal aliens don't belong here. They don't think our laws apply to them and they break them whenever it is convenient to them.
These 2 groups are NOT one and the same.

To me only people who held a prior citizenship or in other words, first generation Americans, are immigrants. All born here are natives.

If your parents were American citizens you are a native American not an immigrant. If you were born here you are a citizen.

The children of the immigrants the ones born in the USA are citizens of the USA. This is one of the ways that illegal aliens try to stay by having anchor babies.

If you're born here, you are a citizen. If you were the first one born here, you are starting a new generation of American citizens. Don't let these fools tell you different...they're ignorant pigs.

I agree with Open Minded, but people are so used to calling us Americans that it has stuck.

If you came here legally, in the first. If after so many generations, you still cannot speak the language, you should probably still be called immigrant.
