No, but if you had the consent of both families there would be no need to elope would there? If you elope because your families do not consent to your marriage, it would be a sin because you are disrespecting your parent's wishes which is a commandment.

I went to catholic school and don't remember hearing that. although they made it quite clear that they preferred marriage in the church, then you have to go to six months worth of classes b4 the priest deems it o.k. that the two of you can be married. don't know why you want to elope, i know it does say you can have a wedding outside of the church for extenuating circumstances, such as a pregnancy or if the priest knows the situation. personally, i say go do what you want, who cares what anyone else thinks, its your day be happy. good luck, and i hope all goes well :)

It's not a sin, but the church won't recognize marriages that aren't done by a priest. I don't know if priests can marry couples without a formal wedding, however.

You must be married in the church by God. it is a sin if you are not and you believe in the Catholic religion.
Side note...I got married in church, I'm not a believer anymore but hey, why take the chance. My parents were happy, so were hers. No biggie to me.
