I have a 2 yr old and a 3 yr old. I have bought all the gimmicks for tooth brushes to try and motivate them and nothing is working... And when I do it for them they whine and cry...
I have tried making a game out of it, brushing my teeth along with them, etc... But nothing is working. Your suggestions are welcome!!

This is what made my daughter (she'll be 3 next month) love brushing her teeth. I went to Walmart and found these toothbrushes that light up. It turns off after 90 seconds by itself and they actually come 2 in a pack. Which would be good for you. Its only like $2 a pack. She loves that toothbrush. I also bought some flintstone vitamins. I started by telling her if you brush your teeth you may have a vitamin afterwards. By the way, she loves the vitamins. I guess because they taste like candy to her. So after she brushes her teeth she is rewarded with a vitamin..
You may want to start giving your children the vitamins first and then tell them if you brush your teeth you may have a vitamin. Worked for me, hope it works for you!! Good Luck!!

I have so been through that, i actually just found something that works. Grandma bought all the kids those battery operated toothbrushes and our 2 yr. old is ALWAYS wanting to brush his teeth now. Of course i help him, but i let him any time he wants to. One i tried with the others were the little firefly or firelight toothbrushes at wal mart that light up for how long they are supposed to brush. I also use the musical one for the toddler, he loves it too. good luck to you. God Bless.

my son is 2 1/2 and even tho he is not old enough to brush his teeth by himself. I let him try..... then ater he "brushes" I ask him can Mommy do it... I tell him that mommy wants to make sure that all the food is gone.... he loves it when I tell him that i am brushing the food away... for example/// ill start brushing his back teeth and ill say something like " Ohhh mommy is getting all the mac and cheese off of your teeth"
then i will go to the front teeth and say " Mommy found some kool aid in the front" he seems to get a kick outta that......plus after i do that he will repeat what i say and he will try to brush his teeth more .....

Well to me it sounds like you are doing all the right things. I have a 2 1/2 year old and he was the same way. But once he realized that once I brushed them for him he would get to do it himself afterwards, he was fine. I would just make sure your doing it everyday, so that it is instilled as part of the daily routine.

I have found that at this age, they are too little to brush their teeth without me. I brush the kids' teeth for/with them until they are 4 and then supervise them closely and do a "once over" myself until 5 and then just supervise until I'm pretty confident they are doing it correctly.

My daughter just turned 3, & will actually ask me to brush her teeth. I let her pick out the toothpaste at the store, she loves her Pooh toothpaste. I always brush my teeth in front of her, b/c kids like to be like their parents. I pretend like it's great fun and tell her my teeth are dirty just like when her hands get dirty and they need to be cleaned. We make noises while I brush her teeth, & then she always wants to do it herself when I'm done. P.S. I also told her if she didn't keep them clean, they'd fall out! I'm so bad

the only thing that ever worked for me was playing 'rabid dog'...
i grabbed a toothbrush and started brushing, got all foamy and made scary noises and faces and then they joined in. brushing our teeth is now a family affair. lol

You should do it for them until they are about 5 or 6. But mean time do it for them and then let them finish it off. I used to sing to mine while I did theirs hahahaha Barney was great for that. "while were brushing our teeth and having so much fun we never let the water run, no we never let the water run" ahhhh good old Barney the Dinosaur

You don't encourage it, you require it.

Not all things in life are fun or pleasurable, yet many of them are necessary. Good habits are learned early, as are good lessons.
