Are there any foods that you initially thought you would not like, but after trying them found that they were good?

And on the other hand, are there any foods that you thought would be really good, but upon trying them decided you didn't like them?

For me, I thought I would love eggplant, but I really don't care for it. I also thought I would hate artichokes but I think they're delicious! :-)

Thanks for your responses!

I thought that rattlesnake would taste disgusting, but it actually tasted like buttery flounder.

As for the food that dashed my hopes, I thought that calamari (squid) would taste good, after all the publicity it's received. I was grossly mistaken, because to me, it's tastes like rubbery blandness.

So, if we're keeping track, that is an A++ for rattlesnake, a D- for calamari. ^lol^

I never waned to try oysters or escargot, but going to culinary school, I had to keep my options open. We sauteed the escargot with a little bit of butter, garlic, and herbs. Although the texture was a little weird, they tasted amazing. And just jaw oysters with a little bit of tabasco, delicious.

Portibella Mushrooms. I thought they looked disgusting, but they actually taste fantastic. If cooked properly they don't really taste like mushrooms at all. They are really meaty tasting.
