Does anyone know what spots on a adrenal gland mean? I recently had a cat scan and they found several spots. My physician is sending the report out for a 2nd opinion to find out what to do. My blood work is steadily getting worse. My catecholine test showed a norepinephrine level of 1200 (normal is below 400). My sed rate was 44 (normal is under 20). My platelet count is 494K (normal is 150-400K), this has gone up from 430K over the last 2 yrs on my bloodwork. Plus I have some other blood work elevated. Anyway, just worried in between the time I am waiting to hear back from the dr.

Spots on Adrenal Gland means adrenal Gland cancer. Adrenal gland cancers are rare cancers occuring in the endocrine tissue of the adrenals. They are characterized by overproduction of adrenal gland hormones.

Cancers of the adrenal gland are very rare. The adrenal gland is a hormone producing endocrine gland with two main parts, the cortex and the medulla. The main hormone of the adrenal cortex is cortisol and the main hormone of the adrenal medulla is epinephrine. When tumors develop in the adrenal gland, they secrete excess amounts of these hormones. A cancer that arises in the adrenal cortex is called an adrenocortical carcinoma and can produce high blood pressure, weight gain, excess body hair, weakening of the bones and diabetes. A cancer in the adrenal medulla is called a pheochromocytoma and can cause high blood pressure, headache, palpitations, and excessive perspiration. Although these cancers can happen at any age, most occur in young adults.-

Well it could mean many things. It depends on your age. Neuroblastoma can be one. It is tipically found in children under the age of 5 but can be found in 20 years olds. Neuroblastoma is a soild tumor. It is most commonly found in the adrenal gland. Above the kidneys. A spot just means a spot. Not life-threatening. Dont worry. Sometimes very low doses of chemotherpy will be involved to try and skrink it but nothing to serious.
