A female cat found us recently. We noticed her belly is rotund (no sign of worms) and she eats all day. She is extremely affectionate and rubs against everything. Are these definite signs of pregnancy or is there a way for us to tell without having to make a 30-minute trip to the vet? Thanks.

Here is a link to a "cat pregnancy calendar". Signs become visible from week 3. Labor starts between day 61 and 70 after conception, which you will have to guess since she is a stray.

The link also give information the the first stages of labor.

Purrs and prayers to you and kitty.

Yes, those are signs that you described. Also, check her nipples. They often get pink and she may lose the hair around them.

You can gently run your hand under her abdomen and see if you notice lumps of walnut size or larger.

Maybe you could call your vet and just ask them over the phone if they have any tips for discerning a pregnancy.
