Some scholars believe that Jesus was actually married, since most Jewish men were at that time (I saw this on the History Channel). This idea also was featured in "The DaVinci Code."

But just focusing on the idea of Jesus being married, why do so many people have a problem with it? Is it the whole concept of Jesus having "relations" that upset people?

I do not believe for a moment Jesus was married.
If he was, it is unimportant otherwise it would be mentioned in the bible.
Regardless why would anyone get angry ?

For the same reason that Christians would have problems with people denying Pentacost.

The fact is Jesus being married is contrary to the faith. Further, if Jesus was actually married, his mother Mary would have been entrusted to his widow at Golgotha, rather than to an unrelated disciple.

Jesus knew a Church would follow him. With this knowledge, he knew the dangers of mortals descended from GOD on earth, as should anyone who knows of the Nephelim from Genesis. Further, he knew that a church with blood relation to Christ would have blood succession, and all the problems that would bring (just look at islam as an example). Further, since he had no immediate family except a mother (his adopted father was dead, and "bretheren of the lord" translates as cousins when mentioned in the NT) (also evidenced at Golgatha with the passing of his mother to a non-relative), a marriage would leave a widow.

There are solid reasons for Christ not marrying, and the concept of his marriage runs contrary to his purpose on Earth. If he was married, it means that his presence here was not about the sacrifice, but something else.

Read the book Holy Blood Holy Grail for that theory.

The Bible says the the church is Jesus's bride. Some scholars feel due to a population of more men then women at the time, that many Jewish men were not married until later years. The LDS church believe that he had 3 wives. There are many different theories

First, Jesus wasn't an ordinary Jewish man of His time.....He was human and deity at the same time.
Second, His bride is the church......believers.......the Christians. No one else has He welcomed to marry Him.
Third, The DaVinci Code is not accurate nor is it truth. Pure truth is found in the Holy scripture.
Fourth, Christians shouldn't get angry when people believe lies, and I really don't think they do. Perhaps it is the insult cast on the Lord of all creation and Savior of the world that gets them going. Have you ever seen a mother's reaction to someone insulting her child? It's kinda like that, except when it's aimed at God, it's sacrilege.
Fifth, Christ was a pure, sinless sacrifice on that cross. That means He saved Himself only for God's mission. The blood sacrifice required purity in every sense of the word. A virgin without spot or blemish. Otherwise, the sacrifice is unacceptable to God. He could never take our place on the cross if He wasn't pure.

Exactly. Having sex means having lusted and lusting is a sin. Which is a ridiculous and uptight idea that I have no doubt was imposed by cultural and monkish minds early on in the development of the early church. Jesus seemed to view marriage very favorably, as did the apostles - but Paul viewed it as a prop for the weak-willed. The early church seemed to have decided a Jesus with testosterone and a functioning penis would be hard to sell as God on earth, so they stripped him of his sinful nature. Also ridiculous, Hebrews explicitly says he was made man in every way (Hebrews 2:5-9). In fact, Hebrews even says he was just a man on earth and was exalted above the angels only after death (Hebrews 1:3-4)!

The non-canonical Gospel of Mary [Magdalene] has Mary as the favored apostle to whom alone did he reveal his final teaching - that all is One. The perennial philosophy, mysticism. And no, this is not a gnostic text. The ecclesiastical celibates in control found these texts objectionable. Shocking, isn't it?

History channel knows nothing about Jesus, and the DavVinci code is even more garbage. Jesus was not married because it wasn't in the bible. Plus saying that he was married would be assuming your talking about mary and that would also imply they had a kid. Well that would be ludacris, but the fact is there is no proof that Jesus was married and had a child. Don't you think that if this was true the bible surely would have pointed it out? I mean come on Jesus's wife and child that would be huge news.

some Christians feel that Jesus was about marriage as the messiah and the he didn't need a female to accomplish everything that he did. so people actually might see it as that if he was married that the woman that he married would only hold him back from his destiny. plus some people also feel that if he was married then it destroys the idea of the Jesus being the most pure figure in history and in their religion.

As an atheist, I follow the same logic I use for this question that I do for dealing with theists.

There is no proof that jesus was married. Is it possible based on the behaviors of 1st century jews in Palestine?. Yes, but that is not proof.

Until someone can find definitive proof; I will be skeptical.

Because Jesus didn't come to this planet to marry or to talk about His sexual life. He came to show that is possible to live without sinning and to die for the human race ;)

When people start focusing on something else, it's annoying... and it kind of disrespect His sacrifice.

Get mad? I do not get mad, I just pity the poor unstable person saying He was married.

First reason I do not believe He was married is that the Bible does not teach that.

Second reason is at the time He would have been considered old enough to marry, about 30 years of age, He was too busy at teaching about God to take on a wife. A wife would have held him back from doing His work.

At about the date of His maturity for the Jewish men, Jesus was very involved in His mission. Jesus was spending all of His time teaching Jews to come back to their religion. He was also with the men He was training to leave behind to establish His church, which they did on the first Pentecost after His death.

It floors me to see fellow Christians say sex is bad. Sex was given to us by God to be enjoyed between a husband and a wife. For them not to have sex was the sin, except for short periods of time when they were devoting all their time to worship God. Then they were to come back together again to have sex. Christians, PLEASE READ YOUR BIBLES.!.!
It is not lust between a husband and a wife. It is a God given feeling to bind them together.

Jesus said "You shall know the truth and the thuth shall set you free." In Christianity truth is of utmost importance and when anyone comes a tries to tamper with truth Christians will always react. No real Bible scholar believes that Jesus was married.
