Sunnis believe that Muhammad was the last prophet and final messenger of Allah (God). The Shiites also believe this but they say that Ali was meant to be the last prophet. This is the primary difference between the two. One other difference is that in Shia Islam the Mahdi (messiah-like figure) is more emphasized in the belief than in Sunni Islam, although theoretically Sunnis also believe in the Mahdi.

"Sunni Islam and Shia Islam are the two major denominations of Islam. Approximately 90% of Muslims are Sunni and 10% are Shi'a, with a small minority belonging to other sects. The historic background of the Sunni-Shia split lies in the schism that occurred when the Islamic prophet Muhammad died in the year 632, leading to a dispute over succession to Muhammad.

Over the years Sunni-Shia relations have been marked by both cooperation and conflict. Today there are differences in religious practice, traditions, and customs in addition to religious belief." -Wikipedia

I find that most of the 'bad talk' between various ethnic and religious groups comes from competition and a fear that the other group will gain more credibility than their own group.

I am a converted Muslim and I choose to be Sunni after everything that I read but I am not saying that Shia is wrong. As far as my understanding they don't follow the Sunnah of The prophet Mohammed (s.a.w.) and they only follow the Quran. We as sunni Muslims recognize the prophet's actions and follow everything he did and said because he was sent by Allah(s.w.t) to teach us and guide us.The hadiths which we learn everything as far as how to pray and everything was all written by the prophets companions years after he died as a guide for us and the Shia don't follow the hadiths or the practices of the prophet. Also they follow leaders (caliphs) which they say are direct descendants of the prophet who are supposed to be knowledgable. They also have different practices which the Sunnah don't belive in.I hope my knowledge is not entirely wrong and I could be mistaken but this is my understanding and I am not trying to offend anyone if I am wrong. But I do belive Muslim is Muslim and once you say"Ashadu la ilaha illa la abdohoo Muhammed Rasoolah" you are Muslim no matter what sect.

There is no difference, both are Muslims (otherwise if Shiites were not Muslim then they can't go to hajj, which obviously isn't the case) the differences are mostly political. I happen to disagree with the shi'aa believe about inherting rule of the Muslims but that's okay, they are our brothers and sisters.

absolutely NO difference. BOTH follow Quran, BOTH follow hadeeth, BOTH love Mohammad saw. the only slight diff is political. shias want the khalifat to be of Mohammad saw's descent, while sunnis just elect them.

Sunni's follow the quran and sunnah hence the name Ahlus Sunnah(people of the sunnah)
Shia are a divergent sect who created many innovations to the religion (Bida'a)
Shia's are liars be aware of them.

well, sunnis are not really Muslims. i converted to Islam and choose Shia Islam cause it made more sense. the sunnni Islam had so many inconsistencies and holes which didn't make sense. sunnis just took the face of Islam while Muhammad was alive to appease him. Muhammad choose Ali as his successor and after Ali the succession would follow through Ali's family. Ali was blood and family and never choose anyone else. abu baker and his evil friends and administration hijacked and dismissed what Muhammad wished upon to have Ali as his succession. so the true believers of pure Islam are Shia's. the rest are all non-Muslims (sunnis)

They don't do anything that is bad...
JUST some... I repeat some... some of the Sunni imams talk lies about the Shiats... n so ppl believe them!

Let me compare 2 rumors about Shiats with 2 rumors about Muslims...

some Non-Muslims say --> Muslims worship the MOON god...
some Non-Shiats say --> Shiats worship the SUN god! (me n my brothers have been called sun worshipors when we were in school... by both the teachers n students... oh we used to live in a Sunni country!)

some Non-Muslims say --> Muslims beat the sh!.t out of their wives n women don't have rights in Islam...
some Non-Shiats say --> Shiats loan their wives to their ulema on the wedding night...

The similarity of the lies is shocking... isn't it?!

When some ppl can't find anything wrong with a certain religion/sect... they try to bash it and create lies about it...

DON'T believe their lies...
