Depressive Episode...... (Feels like a Re-Run..) From 1998 to 2005 I used EFFEXOR on & off... & it worked pretty well for the most part (like 85% of the time maybe).....

Last year I switched off it & onto what has currently turned into:

Prozak-60mg
Buispare-10mg (might not be spelled right)
Lithium-600mg

This has worked SOMEWHAT... but not seemingly as well & as consistent as EFFEXOR....

I had gone off of Effexor in 2005 cause it seemed it had worn off BUT now that it has been out of my system for a while SHOULD I go back to it....??

I REALIZE I NEED TO SEE A DOCTOR....etc etc... BUT if that had been working out well up to now I WOULDN'T be asking for your help...

So please share w/ me what you might suggest for this CASE STUDY.....

THANK YOU......!!!!!!!!!

OK Hon... when you go to your Doctor... sit down and ask what the options are as what you have been doing is not working for you. PERIOD. It is your job to inform him of what is and is not working for you and it is your right to change treatments. There are so many options these days, don't stop until you find one that works for you! You take control... so many of us think that we are at the mercy of our Doctors and are very timid about exploring options when something isn't working... DON'T BE! Your paying for his expertise and his opinion, discuss options! Doctors are not mind readers, they will appreciate your honesty and work with you.

So, go now and make yourself an appointment as soon as you can get it... Things will get better... just hang in there and know that there are many people who care and want to help you out here!

God that's as long as I've had untreated bipolar. The Prozac and lithium should control your moods as Prozac is an SSRI from the antidepressant family (but may take 4-6 weeks to reach full efficacy) and lithium is used to treat all sorts of mood disorders (is relative fast acting). I would see my doc about the dosages and what medications are suitable for your condition as depression can be a complex illness and your needs may have changed as your situation has changed.

Talk to your doctor about how the Effexor seemed to help you more. Maybe he/she can prescribe something else that is like Effexor. I also feel myself sinking. It is scary.
It seems like all these meds. stop working after a while.
There is one called Cymbalta you could try. I have been taking that for a while. I take Methylphenidate to help me have more energy. Seroquel help me sleep but not as much as it used to.
I hope we will be feeling better soon.

from experience sometimes coming off antidepressants is so hard and can leave ou feeling weird, but if you felt better on the effexor than the medication you are on I would really consider it as an alternative, but then if you are starting to feel bad the effects of withdrawing from your current medication may make you feel worse it is so hard to know whats the best thing to do.you know what works better and it is such an awful thing to dealwith, I began to feel worse on a drug called prothiden and switched back to cipramil because I felt better on it and now I can cope with the depression so it worked for me but you must do it under medical supervision ,all the best

Being depressed is the worst feeling in the world, so I think it's worth your while to ask your doctor to make a change. They are always improving psychiatric medication, and there might be something new out there that you can try that's even better. So I think you should talk to your doctor. Good luck and hang in there.

I understand how u r feeling about the meds. wearing off. I have never taken effexor but but have taken other anti-depressants. I took prozac 4 years n when me dr took my off (cold turkey) I was miserable. I didnt feel the meds was working that well while I was taking it - but realized it was b/c I felt horrible off of it. Hope that helps.
