We're not purchasing an airplane seat for our (then) 1 year old. She'll sit on our lap; although we hope to have a bulkhead.

So, I assume that, unless there are free seats on the plane, the baby seat is useless at that time.

However, I can rent a baby seat for about $60-$80 for 2 weeks, from the car rental agency. That saves lugging a seat around airports.

That said, we may also be spending some time in taxis (at the end of our trip, after returning the seat.)

Anyone know:
a) can you carry a baby in your arms in a taxi in France ... or do you need to supply a baby seat?
b) other than "a" and saving $60, is there any advantage to bringing a seat over from europe?

I would never rent a carseat. You have no idea if it has been mishandled, in an accident, a child has pee'd, poo'd or thrown up on it, etc.

Take the carseat.

I would rent a seat - quite apart from anything else, not every seat fits every car, and yours might not be safe in the hire car you have.

I wouldn't feel safe carrying a baby in my arms in a taxi, even if it is legal (I'm not sure on that one, it certainly isn't legal in the UK). I would email the car hire people and ask if you can continue to rent the seat for a few days after you take the car back (or if you just meant from the car hire place straight to the airport, whether they can take you back in a car with a carseat in it. European car hire firms often expect to do this anyway).

Personally, we've always brought our own seat along.

Two reasons: 1) having something familiar is comforting for a child and 2) there's never one available when you need it. There's no guarantee that the rental place will have one - even if you reserve it. Furthermore, rental seats are usually disgusting and dirty. I'd just bring yours along if I were you. You should be able to carry it on so it won't get lost.

Are you not renting a car directly from the airport? I dont believe you can ride in any car without a child seat, even if you could, i certainly wouldnt. No matter how short the trip.

I would rent one. or, if anything, ship yours to the hotel. It'd probably be cheaper than the rental, and it wouldnt get lost in luggage, and you wouldnt be lugging it around.

They help you verify the vehicle seat for loose, because of the fact that is something you will desire to have, so we've constantly carried out that, fairly than paying to hire one. that's somewhat of a hassle to have one greater ingredient to tug alongside, yet a minimum of they do no longer fee the $15-$25 "checked bag fee!" an excellent form of situations they're going to positioned the vehicle seat in a extensive plastic bag too, so as that not one of the products, pads, or straps go lacking.
