The difference is always about the quality of the construction and the materials used. Solid woods are used as opposed to laminates or pines. The springs are hand tied, used to be 8-way hand tie was the best, not sure now. The cushions are extra thick foam and wrapped often in down. The fabric choices are natural fibers, not man-made fibers. Quality furniture stores will have a cross section cut of a seat so you can see how the pieces are constructed. You won't find that in Wal-Mart.

Well, hopefully the quality of products used and construction.
A "better" quality piece of furniture has hardwood as the skeleton as opposed to pine or something that might have a lot of knots and could break from stress.
The materials to make the cushions is usually more dense and therefore less resistant to squishing and loosing their shape.
The fabric will be better quality too - there are different grades of leather and cheaper fabric doesn't wear as well - can wear through or separate.
I don't know what your habits are or where you intend to use the sofa but these are some things to consider. If you like to change your look often and don't plan on staying with this particular piece of furniture long, I'd say get the cheaper one - but make sure you know what you're in store for.
Good luck.

Well, there are some difference here other than material and quality. If the piece of sofa is an import piece, means it was made somewhere else outside the country, then the price difference is there. If it's locally made, usually will be cheaper.

Another one is the brand. A well known brand will usually jacked the price higher, compare to a common or new brand that is not known yet.

All the materials. In particular the support of the seating cushions. You can have springs like in a mattress or batting like in a futon and foam (bad). I went the cheap route and bought a $600.00 one last year and it had a sink hole in the spot I sat in most frequently after about 3 months. It looks like my cushion support is coils which I thought would hold up but I guess it depends on what material the coils are made of. I bought a $175.00 futon for the guest room and that's more comfortable.

Probably materials & quality of workmanship. Besides that, how often do you remodel? And you you have pets/small children? I would LOVE to spend $1500 on a sofa, but because of my 4 cats and fear of commitment, I probably never would.

Try sitting on each--usually more comfortable. Made better. A better fabric used on the cover. Will last longer--hold up better. The more expensive usually has "Scotch Guard" to repell spills and such. More than $1000.

one dollar......... lol. I am kidding. You should check out what material they used in both sofas. Believe it or not there may not be too much difference depending on where you are thinking about making your purchase.
