If you think he should, then what about Richard Burns? Would more fuss have been made if they had been F1 drivers? Is Rallying considered second class compared to Formula One?

Knighthoods are generally given to people who not only make a major contribution to their field of practice but who meet other criteria such as (but not necessarily!) being an international ambassador for that field, carrying out charitable acts and of good character, making a contribution to the incumbent political party!
A sport is considered only second class to another (in the terms you are thinking of) if its popularity, appeal and media coverage is not as great as another. F1 is more popular, has greater appeal and greater media coverage than rallying. This is not a personal view, but a fact: rallying isn't as high profile as F1. McRae's contribution to his sport might have been exemplary, but as the sport itself is not as popular as say F1 then this might have a bearing on Mr McRae's not receiving a knighthood - even posthumously.

Possibly. I would rather that there was either a Colin Mc Rae foundation to bring rallying to the wider public, sponsoring or even providing kit cars to make rallying a less expensive sport.

Or a Colin Mc Rae Trophy, either as a specific Rally, why not in the Borders Country, or as a Cup on Sports Personality of the Year for Motor Sport.

It would be great but what about Richard Burns and even John Surtees since he won the title on 2s and 4s and has contributed a lot as a motorsport ambassador and so has Derek Bell

I think McRae would had been given if he had still been alive and continued to contribute to strengthen British involvement into the sport but sadly it wouldn't had been but was getting that step into it

Realistically for rally names, I can see David Richards getting his for that

In a fair way a knighthood would be given to those who have contributed heavily into the sport for example of those who were given theirs, Stirling Moss who has done a lot to bring interest into the sport and Malcolm Campbell for keeping the land speed record within British hands

Colin hailed from Lanarkshire, a similar place i became born. he would be neglected, he became a great Scot and a incredible kinfolk guy. His son Johnny and his associates have been with him. i might like to prefer each and all of the households my private ideas and prayers as we talk. Colin, Johnny and associates you're in my prayer's. People have, - earlier, this year, - organised an ONLINE PETITION, - which, I SIGNED, - calling for similar "RECOGNITION" for the late, great "LIVERPOOL F.C." manager, BOB PAISLEY!

All of us, who signed THAT, - I presume, - received e-mails, in RETURN, - saying that - UNLIKE the Nation's SUPREME MILITARY HONOUR, - the VICTORIA CROSS, - a KNIGHTHOOD can ONLY be conferred, upon a LIVING person. So, - even, if you TRY, to get this honour, for the late gentleman, - I'm AFRAID, that you will NOT SUCCEED!

I AGREE with you, though, - 100%, - Colin McRae's sporting achievements DO merit SOME form of posthumous "RECOGNITION", - if, ONLY, for the sake of the SURVIVING members of his FAMILY.

Excuse me. But what exactly McRae did to deserve the knighthood?
Good really driver ok but hey, so many others are.
I would rather recognise him for attaching his name to one of the best driving games ever.

No! If knighthood gets given left, right and centre - most people will be knighted e.g. the person who invented tampons or toilet paper. Where will it stop. Jeez.
