i'm english. french is my second language that i learned at school then spanish. like many english schoolboys, i was very shy of speaking other languages. when i found myself a guest of the king of morocco in 1976, my french improved vastly as did my spanish. i also picked up some moroccan arabic (they don't understand it in sa'udi). as a lorry driver i picked up italian and german and a (very) little dutch. it gives me a great sense of satisfaction to be able to communcate with other people. i love travelling but am not particularly interested in buildings and the usual tourist sights, but i love talking to people and eating with them. probably french as i have reached the level that i sometimes dream in it, or perhaps moroccan arabic as it's so tactile.

I'm a native of Polish and I speak Spanish, English and German, I used to learn French and Russian as well. I like all these languages, each one for a different reason. Spanish because it's so lively and melodic and has a lot of funny expressions (I deal a lot with native speakers). English for professional and academic purposes, I find it quite precise and compact. German for all the loooong words built up from other words, I find it a great way to construct vocabulary. French sounds really beatiful and Russian has plenty of diminutive forms. Hope to learn more languages in future!

I love every language that I can speak.

I'm english, but speak (in order of fluency, from high to low) french, german, spanish, italian, portuguese, finnish, russian, basque.

Each language portrays life in a different way, in a way that reflects the society, culture and way of life of the native country, which is why it is so important not to lose languages, as you also lose the culture and its point of view on life.

Oh, though its not a real language per se, I also speak perfect BS, which I have a lot of fun with at work.. confuses the hell out of people!
;-)

My favourite language other than my native English is German the reason for that is that it was the first " foreign" language I learnt to use as a means of communication.
The initial three Latin, Greek and French were taught as academic exercises.
The teaching of languages does not seem to have improved in our schools over the last fifty years, little use seems to be made of language laboratories or techniques which were used very effectively in the army in the 60s.

Spanish - because, having used it for my work on a daily basis for over 30 years, I feel completely comfortable speaking it and even find that I can express things that are awkward to say in English. Knowing Spanish has also opened up a world of good friends and contacts all over the world. It's also extremely useful when you have Peruvian in-laws as well!!!

I am American born of German, Polish, Irish, English and Puerto Rican descent.
My native language is English, but I do read, write and speak Spanish. I do read, write, and speak some German also.
I do not have a preference because all 3 are of my heritages. And I am hoping to learn Polish and get into Irish.
But to answer your question, my favorite is German even though I am not fluent but do get along on the basics.

I am an European:native speaker of Dutch and I also speak French and German and English.
My favorite language is German, because it has so many funny and precise expressions and words. It is more expressive than the other languages I know.
