I want to translate "i heard the key turn" and i have translated it as "oÍ la vuelta de la llave".. is that along the right lines would you say ? im a bit confused on this one! thanks

That is literally "I heard the turn of the key" which is about the same thing.

That´s wright, we understand that your heard the sound of the key when it turned... also you can say it as:

escuché la llave al girar
escuché la llave girar

the same as "spanish to english", you can translate it with a different words order, but keeping the meaning...

You can say it:

Oi la llave girar.
or
Oi la llave dar la vuelta.
or
Oi la llave cuando giro.


Any one is the same. I used girar which is the same as vuelta in as for "turn"

I would stick with the verb "oir" rather than "escuchar" in this particular context since "oir" is "to hear" and escuchar" is "to listen". Without knowing the rest of the text to translate what you wrote sounds just about right.
