I was having a discussion with my partner.
I thought that born again Christians were people who didn't have religion or Christian beliefs, and then came to Christianity. They would then be people who had never been previously Christianed, and could be converts from other religions. Which is why they are born again.

My partner thinks they are people who were Chrisitians, then left the faith, only to rediscover it later, hence being "born-again".
Which description is right....or is it neither of us?

I'd need to ask a few psychiatrist friends of mine. I'm sure it is in the DSM somewhere.

Symptoms do include delusions of superiority, auditory hallucinations, unclear reasoning, faith in imaginary beings. I'm not sure about the full list and definition but as I said I'll check it out with some psychiatrist friends.

I Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

So really anyone doesn't matter if they left there faith and have come back or if they never believed. This is salvation, being saved from death (eternal/hell). You can call yourself whatever religion it is you want. If you are christian, which is not really a good classification because there are groups that call themselves christians but do not follow the right way. So lets use baptist, in my church I go to there are people there that call themselves baptist. Simple enough right? but the thing is some are not saved so just calling yourself that will do you nothing. You must be saved, ask God to forgive you of your sins. Than ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart and help you grow in Christ.

In a nutshell, you become born again when you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and the Holy Spirit enters into you and seals you forever as a child of God. This must happen for a person to be saved as we are all born spiritually dead at our physical birth and must experience the Spiritual birth as well. John Chapter 3 has all the details. God bless!

Those who repent of their sins and fully trust in the finished work of Christ in paying for those sins with their dreadful consequences, and commit their lives to him, are born again of the Holy Spirit. They are known by their good deeds, and are always persecuted by bad people, and commended by good people.

This 're-birth' is also known as being baptised in the Spirit. Sometimes Christians are baptised in water to make a public witness of their faith, but this does not make them born again. Water baptism used to be for those who were already born again, and did not wish to keep it a secret and avoid persecution. But these days, anyone can be baptised in water, and no persecution comes from water baptism, except in Islamic countries. Water baptism is not really worth anything any more.

So be very wary of people who say that water baptism is necessary to be born again. They either need basic teaching, or they are your enemy.

And look out for 'once saved, always saved' tricksters, too. We have the choice until our dying day.

I believe that a born again christian is a person who may or may not have had a christian belief before but comes, through revelation by the Holy Spirit, to a new or deeper understanding of the Gospel and trust in God. The bible tells us in John ch 3 that v3 "unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" and v5 "..unless one is born of water and Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God" Being born of water is natural/human childbirth and being born of the Spirit is a supernatural birth. 1John4:7 ".. for love is of God; and everyone who Loves is born of God and knows God" i hope that helps.

The physical birth recycle is also true .
Spiritual birth in the physical body is actually meant by this "born-again" .
But , it has a deep meaning . It doesn't care about the religion or community rituals . Only the true followers can realize it .

born again christians are those who have had different religions before and were following the usual rites of a certain religion, but were exposed to the word of God, learned and understood them by heart. thus, they are called "born-again christians", because they have to be like a "child", accepting the words of God without prejudice..learning the words of God in a new light. it's like when you're a child, everything that you're told are like new, and true... and so when you become a "born-again christian", you "throw away" whatever old habits that you have, whatever old notions that you know..for it's in the bible, that unless a man is born again, he cannot enter the kingdom of God... born again christians use the bible as the basis of their faith...if it's not in the bible, they dont practice it...

It was Jesus Christ himself who said "You must be born again." (Third chapter of John's gospel.) What he meant by this is that you must repent of your sins, accept the atonement of Christ's death, and accept him as your personal savior. I hope I said this in a way that makes sense to you.
It doesn't really matter what your religious background is; anyone can be born again--and everyone needs to be.
I never use the expression "born-again Christian" because I think it's redundant. If you're born again then you're a Christian; if you're not born again you're not really a Christian.

born again is a second birth. John chapter 3 describes a physical birth (born of water, natural childbirth when the water breaks) and a spiritual birth (born of God, adopted into his family after accepting Jesus as your Savior).

Like most Nicodemus confused spiritual with physical. That is why somem point to this passage as meaning you have to be baptised to be saved (born of water) not what Jesus said. Read it and you will see 2 seperate births.

The Holy Bible, says in the Gospel of John chapter 3: verse 3, Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. I am glad to hear you are discussing this issue, because without being born again you willnot go to Heaven. How ever this discussion came about may have saved your life. If you die without Christ in your Life you will spend the rest of eternity with the devil in a lake of fire. Jesus came to earth, born of a virgin, grew up as a perfect man, sinless, then died on a cross for all the sins of mankind. His shed blood was atonement for our sins. In Hebrews 9 it talks about how without the sheding of blood there is no remission of sin. Jesus paid the price for our sins. Remember John 3:16, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. When you get born again or saved you only have to do it once, and Christ will abide with you forever. To be born again you must be willing to admit that you are a sinner, that you need a Saviour. Are you willing to admit that Christ rose from the grave the third day opening the door to salvation for every man to accept his free gift. We are saved by his grace and mercy, all we have to do is ask, Will you ask today. just Pray this Prayer believing and you will be Born Again, Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!!
