I assume that we are talking about the OUTER rear Axle bearings, and that you have Dana 35 in the rear axle. Remove the brake hard ware, linings, springs ect.
Open the rear differential and you will find clips that hold the axles in place. There is a small retaining bolt for the center pin of the differential. Remove the retainer bolt and pin. Note, on reassembly do NOT over torque this retainer bolt or it will break!!!! Push the axle in to remove the c clips. Pull out the axles. You will see a grease seal inside the axle housing, remove and replace later. Now you can see the actual bearing cone and cup.
Using a slid hammer you can pull the bearing assembly out easily. Use a large driver or socket to reinstall.
Reverse above procedure.
Are you SURE that the rear beaings are failing? If so make sure that there is no damage on the axle where the inner rollers ride.
Good Luck

Dragline, would be right if you have a C-clip Dana 35 rear used in the Cherokee from 1989 thru 2001.
But if you have a 1984 thru 1989(mid year) Cherokee, or one equpped with the Dana 44, the bearings are on the axle shaft and his process of removing won't cut it.
Look on E-bay for a Factory Service manual, they are 25 billion times better than either Chilton or Haynes manuals. If you have to buy either Chilton or Haynes, get Chilton's, Haynes books are good for lining birdcages, cat boxes, wrapping up pieces of chewed gum, or keep your beer can from leaving marks on your work bench.
