You do have a point, I guess a person just has to have faith that the 12 apostles followed the right one!

Jesus is a latinization of Yeshua. The Greek derivative of Yeshua is Joshua. Many people named Jesus have existed and do exist. I have a colleague named Jesus. Now it is true that the Christ was not named Christ. He was known at the time as Yeshua ben Yusef, Jesus the son of Joseph.
There are a very few contemporary accounts of him. These have been surpressed by both believers and non believers; by the former because the accounts do not support the church establishment's official line on Jesus and by the latter because the accounts in fact are non biblical evidence that he did exist.

certainly not by that name
possibly not exactly as described in the 4 separate historical documents that are part of what we call "the bible" today.
but almost definitely a person with many similarities to the "jesus" described in the books of matthew, mark, luke, and john did exist. you would be hard-pressed to find a historian that flat-out denies the existence of the man that we call jesus. in fact, there is far more historical evidence to support the existence of this man than almost any other historical figure from that era or any era before it, including alexander the great or julius caesar or genghis khan.
whoever the man was, he still is influencing politics today and even our calendar is still based around this person's life. to have such an impact and to have not existed... is a little bit unreasonable. but the further we get from an event, the easier it is to forget something. the moon landing... the halocaust... soon people will start to deny there ever was an o.j. simpson...

There are no proof what so ever outside of the bible. People will probably try to sell you quotes from Josephus, Tacitus and others, but they have been proven to be early Christian forgeries. Your theory on why and how Christianity was started is on the other hand ridiculous. If you want to discuss the topic I suggest you read up on it first. It's actually interesting to see what happened, how and why. Also look up Simon of Perea, he was the messiah before Jesus.

Did a historical Jesus exist?
http://www.nobeliefs.com/exist.htm
[Excerpt]
ALL CLAIMS OF JESUS DERIVE FROM HEARSAY ACCOUNTS
No one has the slightest physical evidence to support a historical Jesus; no artifacts, dwelling, works of carpentry, or self-written manuscripts. All claims about Jesus derive from writings of other people. There occurs no contemporary Roman record that shows Pontius Pilate executing a man named Jesus. Devastating to historians, there occurs not a single contemporary writing that mentions Jesus. All documents about Jesus got written well after the life of the alleged Jesus from either: unknown authors, people who had never met an earthly Jesus, or from fraudulent, mythical or allegorical writings. Although one can argue that many of these writings come from fraud or interpolations, I will use the information and dates to show that even if these sources did not come from interpolations, they could still not serve as reliable evidence for a historical Jesus, simply because all sources derive from hearsay accounts.
Hearsay means information derived from other people rather than on a witness' own knowledge.
Courts of law do not generally allow hearsay as testimony, and nor does honest modern scholarship. Hearsay provides no proof or good evidence, and therefore, we should dismiss it.

Personally, I do not think he existed by this or any other name. I think the bible, while being a good read, is a work of fiction. If you have ever played Chinese whispers you will know my reasons. If, 2007 years ago, I told you a sentence to remember & asked you to tell one person of the next generation & ask them to do the same & so on, do you seriously expect the end sentence this year would bear any relation to the original?

Mohamed was wrong in calling him Esau, it's more likely Joshua. He had to exist because he split time in history or you forgot about before Christ(BC) or after Christ (DC).

Only as a fictional book character from the Bible. Jesus has only ever existed as an idea in people's heads outside of the Bible.
