Chlamydia doesn't injure the immune system in any way.

It can, however, go higher up in the female reproductive tract and cause pelvic inflammatory disease (basically a worse version of chlamydia) - for this reason, best to treat it as soon as it's diagnosed.

Chlamydia can also cause scarring in the female reproductive tract and lead to future issues with tubal pregnancies and infertility - another good reason to get it treated right away.

Finally, you can get other sexually transmitted diseases along with chlamydia so anyone who has been diagnosed with chlamydia should also be checked for other STD's.

The good news is that chlamydia is pretty easy to treat once detected. Don't forget to make sure your stepdaughter notifies all her partners (past and present) so that they can get checked as well!
