i would suggest visiting all parts of manhattan.
you can take something with you

DOWNTOWN:
-Wall St. and the Financial District (during the week there's nothing but business men running around/city hall to visit/famous gold bull)
-Canal St. (great deals on knock off hand bags)
-Union Square (best park in manhattan b/c its so mellow/theres surrounding stores to visit there)

MIDTOWN:
-Times Square (toys r' us, mtv building, abc building, espn bar.. .ya ya ya)
-Central Park (visit strawberry fields...what an ode to john lennon..and sheeps bay...its this big open field on a nice day to just sit and enjoy the scenery)
-go see a broadway play (its an experience within itself

UPTOWN:
-Museum of Natural History (always something fun and prehistoric there
-Metropolitan Museum of Art (theres a suggested donation so, you KNOW what that means
ITHAKA Restaurant (near the metropolitan museum of art)
308 E 86th Street
New York, NY, 10028
(212) 628-9100 (its Greek food to die for !!!)

hope you enjoy the city !

If you have the money, the world's your oyster in NYC. If you are on a budget, plenty still to do, like walk around Tribeca and see if you can spot a movie or TV star.
