Well NOTHING lasts for ever except one thing, a Memory.
So you could try giving him a memory of a life time, something unusual like going out to a Play or doing something together that he wouldn't normally do but would find enjoyable.
If he is into motor sports, try getting one of those day out packs where he can drive a real racing car for example.

Does he like to read? Get him a book you know he will like if he does. Paperbacks even do the trick.
If he doesn't like to read, consider a movie DVD.
