Being the bigger person requires us to not succumb to strong emotion such as anger, jealousy, stubborness etc but by thinking with our minds rationally a good solution to the problem whilst accepting in part you may have been wrong and admitting that. Its also about making the first move after a disagreement and being the "grown up" in a situation i think thats where the term being the "bigger" person comes from. It means be an adult and even if you dont like the way things are sort it out and make that move in a responsible way even if your emotions are still strong over the issue. Emotion does fade away and so do friends if we are not careful, life is too short to be stubborn and lose time over issues which in reality are nothing. Its hard being the bigger person, but it feels great when you are :)

Literally, by being taller and wider than the other person. But to answer your question, there are many ways to be the bigger person. Walking way from somebody looking for a fight and not responding to them in anyway is a good way to be a bigger person. The hardest way to be a bigger person is to forgive people who have wronged and hod no grudge against them, that is being the bigger person.

Always be courteous, always be kind, always be honest, always be patient, always be brave.
Don't ever let anyone else's ideas, behaviour or attitude change the way you treat them.
Give people the benefit of the doubt and look for the best in them.
Live your beliefs, don't preach them.
Remember that respect isn't worth having if you have to demand it or enforce it - real respect is only given when it's been earned.
Love life and respect life.
Learn something every chance you get.
The most important thing is not to be better than any other person - it's to be better than the person you were yesterday.

Bigger than what or whom, is it a contest ??? Just live by a decent set of morals, treat others as you wish to treated, Not as they treat you disassociate from those you find distasteful without being rude, and maybe you will see a difference.
