The simple moral lessons contained in the bible are more appropriate for people living simple lives tilling fields and building barns. You don’t have to worry about your children being exposed to too much knowledge and becoming too educated for religion. No exposure to a decadent, gratuitous and immoral society which, judging by your posts, is a real thorn in your backsides. So come on guys, how about it? It’s inevitable that a time will come when you guys will be forced to choose between being part of a modern society or holding on to primitive unsubstantiated beliefs.

Hmmm I think every single person who harbours some form of religion should be shipped to a far off island where they can fight out their petty differences and leave us decent non religious people to live in peace and harmony.

Many can say they are Christian , many can say they have religion , many may say they are spiritual ......which does not mean nothing unless you have salvation , and nothing but salvation , and having salvation is not anti - technology . or anti-science , there is a difference in a modern society , and a society with no morals ..times do change , many think the word of God changes with time , it does not ..the way to having salvation never changes with the times , so I will do as you ask and go build a barn if you will find a building a jump off if it , being stupid is just not tolerable ....Most Christians today could sit in a church and never know the rapture has taken place ....a person of true salvation can listen to others point of view , and do so without judging them or saying you're going to hell , it is not about religion , it is about knowing , and understanding your beliefs , and being true to your beliefs what you do and what you believe is your choice , just as is mine , and one day when it is all said and done with no chance to turn back we will find out who was right , and who was wrong ....No religion should force their beliefs or way of life down anyones throats or demand their way of life be accepted ...it is no thorn in my backside , because my @ss is an exit only part of my body , I have my belief , and you can have yours....

Christians are not Luddites per se, only inasmuch as science or technology further exposes their religion to be the fallacy that it is. Geo-centrism comes to mind, when that was disproved, the church coerced the minds which debunked the idea into submission to it's anti-intellectual position.

Exposure to immorality isn't the problem that you think it is.

The faithful raise their children to know right from wrong.

That doesn't mean I believe that atheists don't know right from wrong, but the faithful know their obligation to teach their children the truth, whereas atheists believe that everything is relative and there is no absolute truth and basis for right and wrong and so they have a more "sit back and watch" approach to raising their children and do not teach them the consequences of sin, sin being that which is against God.

heh-heh, you wish...then you might be able to get an atheist elected to the presidency...or at least the frickin' senate...

so, yeah, sure...we'll *think about it* and get back to ya...

being a Christian is not about hiding away, safe and secure. we are called upon to love the unloveable, people much like yourself...we are lights to shine in a dark world...sorry!

edit: i'm still laughing! if you ever stopped to think (not as a concept, but actual use of your brain cells), you'd know that the people you want to banish to the stone age are the same people who teach your kids, protect you and your family from danger, grow the food you eat, build the house you live in...how do you get off on being so arrogant and condescending? maybe it's you who needs to return to a simpler life...where you can contemplate primitive beliefs like loving your neighbor and doing unto others...

I think this is a reasonable question to level at a small minority of bible literalists but it's an exaggeration to say 'most Christians' are anti-science.

The problem for Christians to do that is that it would result in them not having the ability to spread their faith to those who they can't persuade with words (i.e. pretty much everyone) so they need the technology to force or bribe people to accept their religion.

What leads you to believe the Amish are anti-science and anti-technological. They have displayed that their simplicity is successful and profitable. So, what difference does it make to you about how they structure their lifestyle. They are kind, generous, private, hard working, honest, and non hostile. What more is necessary.

Is that why there are projection screens and fancy televised radio/TV channels of sermons, fancy fancy A/V set ups, and such and so on? They exploit it just as much as any alcoholic would a barrel of wine.
