i have had several cockatiels in my life and i think they are just the best little buddies that a person cna have....one bird i had 'scooter'...would always go into the bottom of the cage when the dog was in the house or if he was left alone in the house...i think it is a security/hiding thing...as ffar as the new feathers coming in go, there is a way you can help her along with that and make her more comfortable during it....that is if she is hand raised and you can handle her...all my birds loved a pat on the head and throat...scooter was only 4 weeks old when i got him and nearly bald...when the feathers come in there is a hard shaft over them...kind of like a straw...if you take the feather between your thumb and forefinger and gently pinch, you can feel this shaft crack...when it does, just slide it off the feather (dont pull! it should just genlty slide off) you will be helping your bird to be more comfortable and at the same time bonding/interacting with yor bird in a positive way

Hi Sweetie,
Precisely what I predictated & believe told u about, Lulu is having anxiety emotions as u left her so long! She's not sick, altho she maybe acting this way 2 get r attention not 2 do it again. I asked u 2 get in touch with Karla, on the "pet r bird line", picture o' Lily her Cockatiel on her shoulders, did u? As she knows all about Lulu's problems as she has experience. Soon Lulu will learn how 2 pick out her feathers & before it gets 2 that stage, I researched & found a web-site that I found very interesting. I bought a book Jack Russell's 4 Dummies, when I got Jakey
& this is similar, cuz as i went threw this site 4 u i thot 2 myself, this is loaded with info u cud use & hope 4 Lulu's sake, u'll look it up.
www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/DummieArticle/id-2149.html "end!" long isn't it? But lots o' info u can print off, etc. Best o' Luck, Ash.
LOL, Diana D
P.S. if u like it Add it 2 r Favourites 4 future!

Well whoever said she was trying to lay an egg, not! 8 weeks old?
I would say that she was down on the floor to keep warm. My young birds sometimes get off their perches and get on the bottom, it is warmer down there.
I don't know where you live or anything and how the temperature is right now. We have been having some chilly nights.
I am sure the bird will be fine. If her poop doesn't look bad and she is eating and stuff then you and her will be fine.

It may just be a spot she's chosen as a new favorite spot. They can pick very unlikely places sometimes.
Egg laying is out of the question because she isn't mature at only 8 weeks.
Moulting won't cause her to sit in a corner either. You may not notice too much moulting until she reaches maturity at 6 months, then you may get some mood swings.
If she's still as sociable, eating & drinking normal, acting normal & playing as normal then she sounds fine.

She probably has picked a nice spot in her cage its not uncommon for them to hang in the bottom of their cage. Her feathers growing don't hurt her she will be fine.Have you got any millet sprays for her to snack on they love them. Also she wont be laying an egg they are not sexually mature at 8 weeks to do that.People say that they are sexually mature at around 18months but my bird layed her 1st 3 eggs at 6months and yes one did hatch but sadly died at 4 days old when its parents abandoned her.I'll give you a website to join about cockatiels they have given me very good information about them.
Definitive Guide To Cockatiels (just google it and join up for the newsletters)
usualy when your bird is sick its feathers will be puffed up and it will not be breathing properly.

Only a vet can say for sure. I would think that, being only 8 weeks old, she missed you and your love and touch and cuddle. Try that. Good luck .

Maybe she's going to lay an egg. They can lay eggs even when a male isn't present, they just won't be fertile
