You ask this question as an intellectual question but where the answer lies is not that of an intellectual answer but that of a moral answer.
So I ask you, are you really interested in my answer or do you want me to tell you what you want to hear??? Well, my friend, I am not going to tell you what you want to hear nor will I speak of things which are not true. I will only speak of that which I know of and that which I know to be the truth.
I have personally encountered people from all walks of life, backgrounds and faiths (and even those of non faiths). I know what my beliefs are. I have found my own answers. I have studied History, Science and Archeology. I have read many books and writings. I have heard and studied about Creation vs. Evolution and I have even asked myself such questions like....
How old is the Earth??? - Is the Bible correct or is the belief of some scientist correct???
Are such religious writings and ancient writings factual???
Which religion or ancient religions is the true one???
How does History, Science & Archeology measure up to all these religions and writings??? (Don't be afraid to put all of them to the test.)
And even the age old question: "Why Are We Here" / "What is my reason for being"???
For you to find the answer you seek, that is a journey which you will have to find out for yourself. I cannot tell you what to believe in nor can I force you to believe something which you do not choose to believe in. I am not here to judge or to condemn nor am I here to put one above the rest.
The only advice I can give is to tell you to always keep an open mind, no matter how strange, bizarre or crazy things may sound or appear and NEVER STOP SEARCHING UNTIL YOU HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS TO EVERYTHING. Do not stop with only an partial answer, go that extra mile for the complete answer. Never settle for anything less and don't forget to use things like LOGIC & MORALITY in your search.
Don't take my word for anything and never stop learning. The truth is out there. Sometimes you have to just dig a little deeper for it.
I'll leave you with this last famous quote from Britain's greatest fictional detective (Whose life was based on a real human being)
"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?” - Sherlock Holmes (from the novel - A Sign of Four).
I will pray that you will find the true answers.

I'm not sure of the siginificance of 4000 years opposed to any other number, but the Bible was written when it was. As far as God is concerned, perhaps the earlier religions were loosely based on this concept, but only came together in a form/being that we can all agree on as populations increased, people traveled further from their origins, languages were translated and understood by more people due to the traveling/socialization of these people, they questioned their own beliefs after seeing/hearing of other forms of worship, etc, etc. Besides, the bible doesn't say God didn't exist before it was written seeing as it shows He is infinite.
Such are the mysteries of life and answers we may not possibly even know after we die. Hence faith.

You seem to be either confused or innocent.
Confused..b coz ur question is quite vague.
Innocent b coz u want to know.
Please remove all ideas about religions that u have.
Religion is a "bench-mark" for humanity, it's a code of conduct desirable for the upliftment of society & humanity.
The virtues high lighted in the name of God or godly people are true for all the times. Remove miracles from all religious stories & concentrate on what it signifies.
If u don't like Bible, I would quote Islam.. five pillars, as they call it, namely faith, prayer, donation, pilgrimage and fasting are meant for keeping u pious and devine.
If u like Jainism, there are 25 virtues listed for a good human being. some of them are .. truth, non-liolence, detachment, and so on...U will easily notice that they are good for all times.
So.. now remove all confusion. Religion is a compsite way of living or more popularly, art of living.

Jesus promised the Holy Spirit, and He delivers the Holy Spirit to those who trust Him, just as He promised. That's how I know this is the real one. What is written in the Bible about Jesus and the Holy Spirit is edified by what the Holy Spirit brings us. Also, without the Holy Spirit, you cannot rightly divide the word of God; the Bible. You won't know how much to value what's in it.
So I am saying that it's a miracle that I believe. A daily freaking miracle. Only those who God wants will be able to understand it.

so... what is the original religion?
The original religion is linked to the first "human" in this world.
Here, this question is not satisfy answered yet. Therefor, people choose to follow an ancient belief which can match with their culture (if any), mind set (intellectual) or environment.
Mmm.... I think the "logical" of old ancient history belief is to believe in ONE G-d.

I believe that the true God in this universe who gives our lives purpose is Love.
Christianity makes sense to me because it is the belief that God, in order to restore the souls of the lost, sacrificed heaven to become a human being. He choose to suffer and die in place of people who deserved to. This amazing act of love defeated all that is evil and proved to be more powerful. This is what Christianity teaches and I accept that, because I don't think I could accept a lesser god.

The Bible, as we know it today, is about 1700 years old and God has always existed. This was made evident to humanity when it first appeared.

Because the one, true God is the eternal creator of all things, and his true glory was revealed to us by his only begotten son Jesus, about 2000 years ago, in God's own good time.
And while ageless civilizations have made many claims and told many stories, only Jesus was foretold 2000 years in advance, complete with over a thousand divine prophecies, which he fulfilled completely, during his short earthly existence.
And in all of human history, only one person ... Jesus ... ever claimed to have power over death and hell, and subsequently proved it, by raising himself from the dead, showing himself to over 500 people, and then, in full view, taking that same crucified and resurrected body with him, by his own power, back to heaven.

There you are. By default you are in to it. It is not your choice, at least not for few early years of your life. Few could come out of this circle. You are one of those. Me too…
