Actually the Caesars worshipped themselves and each other. They proclaimed themselves gods and executed anyone who didnt worship them. The Book of Revelation is written about these people.

Ancestor worship occurs in ancient cultures all over the world. The Greeks worshiped Asclepius,Oedipus, Heracles etc.
