It always surrounds me lost outside somewhere and all the people I'm with (usually family members) are gone and I can't find them or they've just up and left me in the middle of an unfamiliar place. Usually my purse is gone or lost so I have no keys to my car or money to call a cab or make a phone call. If I do find my car keys I start looking for my car. I walk for blocks and can't find it or its gone. I start thinking I will have to beg for money to make a phone call and I may not get any help so I'm so afraid of the unknown. I feel very scared and alone, like I won't find my way back. I've had this dream several times over the last 5 years. I wonder why it is recurring.

I was raised by both of my parents and they never divorced so I don't think its anything to do with childhood abandonment.

Your almost constantly getting yourself into new and unfamiliar situations that your family members are unable to help you with, leaving you feel a little like your "on your own". Your purse is a symbol of who you are and your identity and you've some how, somewhere lost who you truly are. You want to find someone who has advice on the situation that you are in and the car keys may represent that you are on the right track, but not being able to find your car makes you feel that not all the details are there, or you feel trapped with no means of escape. Begging for help might also mean that, even if they are a complete stranger, you are willing to listen to anyone who may be able to advice you on ways of finding help.

It may not have to do with physcial abandonment, but emotional abandonment.

You may have felt that one or both of your parents or some other significant other wasn't "there" at an important time in your life.

Recurring dreams are messages from your subconscious that you are not getting. That is when they keep returning. Once you "get" the message, you won't have the dream anymore.

We don't have to have been abandoned to fear it. It's a common fear - the loss of security. But you mentioned a lost or missing purse and car keys. That refers to not having the resources to get to where you need to be. I can't help but wonder if God has been trying to get your attention. He knows the way. I'd talk with a pastor or a clergy person in your area. They can help. God does talk to us in our dreams, you know. God Bless You!

I think you have a feel of insecurity in you mind, and this is what gets reflected in your dream. It may have happened by a past bitter experience. I would suggest you to consult a psychologist before it gets too late.

and don't think a lot about it.

You are still searching for your happiness. Trying to find it on your own is scary so you're trying to find it in others when really you should find it on your own.
