Hepatitis B antigen is virus particles from hepatitis B virus, as opposed to HB antibody which is the body's defensive proteins formed in response to the virus being in your system. Usually both tests are done to look for evidence of past or current hepatitis B. Hepatitis B is a type of liver virus.
