You probably have an ear infection, secondary to swimmer's ear, if you're in a great deal of pain. You'll need antibiotics, either in pill form, or there are also drops available.

To *prevent* swimmer's ear in the future: After swimming, place one or two drops of rubbing alcohol in each ear. This dries up any water trapped in the ear canal. You can also buy one of the OTC products. They actually make one called "Swim Ear". It contains alcohol.

I've had it many times and yes it is the most excruciating pain one can imagine. You don't need to go swimming to get it. You could get water in your ear just from taking a shower. If you think it will get better with home remedies you are wrong. You need an antibiotic and prescription ear drops.. If you wait much longer, your ear canal will close up and the side of your face in front of your ear will swell and cause more pain like a throbbing tooth ache in your ear, then the doctor will have to put a tube in your ear to open up the canal to put drops in it. See a doctor today or go to a walk-in Medical Center TODAY!

You have to go to the doctors for a prescription medicine. Normally, it's an ear drop like medince. You use it in the morning and night (depends on the doctor). Most cases, you don't need to eat anything.
