It just strikes me that god is described first as an abusive husband in the OT and then as a doting, loving father in the NT....

If you would only read and study the Bible, it would all make sense.
In all of the OT God was both making a point and giving His people a very valuable lesson in humility. And that was that Adam had screwed up royally. He couldnt handle the good and evil stuff.
Once God had made His point to mankind, He revealed His love, mercy and grace.

the whole bible describes God. After all he wrote it so wouldn't you write a book about yourself. It is full of people who have let him down. Even when i left church fifteen years ago i was still working with him. He should write a book about me. It would be called. "How God did not let Loretta down, but how people have" I guess that is why he has me flrting all day. Can't wait to see honey again, I let her know this morning I was lazy in the gym and then the message was changed to "you are so lazy" not about gym that is!.

Yes. You see, God created Dr. Phil right before Jesus was born, to help him deal with the whole virgin pregnancy thing (mainly because Jerry Springer, who was created before Dr. Phil, wasn't helping all that much). Dr. Phil straightened everything out, and it's "workin' " for God, more or less.
