It was LAW back then. It is not now. You cannot make any sort of comparison with then and now. Aren't you glad you didnt live back then? It was a harsh world.

I wanted to kill myself because I thought that I was Gay. It was a bad time. Not because of religious persuasion, I had no religious persuasion at the time. My parents were not encouraging any religion either. In fact, they mostly talked against it.
But in the darkest time of my life, I found God with that pain. All I had to do was admit to Him that I was giving Him a chance at me. And I didn't know everything. But I never trusted Him before. This time was different.
So now I am the resident Bisexual Christian here, and I do get some flack from other Christians about it, but they don't understand the love that God gives me nightly and daily.
(I say this because especially at night, when I go to bed, He is with me in a rather strong way. Those who are forgiven much love much!)
So yes, the Law of Moses was the order of the day. Now it's not that way, Jesus took us Christians out from under the Law. The Law was strict and unbending, while the Grace of God is loving. And it's by that love that we respond. We cannot stone another person for being Gay or anything else. It's not the New Covenant to destroy a person for being a sinner, since we already told God that we are sinners too.

First off the old testament doesn't apply to Gentiles (that's us) it applied to the Jews.
The Jews were set apart from the rest of us as an example of how to live right according to the word of God.
They had to be made Holy in preparation for the coming of the Messiah who would be born into this world through their blood line.
This list in Leviticus includes extreme harsh punishments against sexual sin. Why? God had no tolerance for such acts for the following reasons.1. They shatter the mutual commitment of married couples. 2. They destroy the sanctity of the family. 3. They twist peoples mental well-being and 4. they spread disease.
Sexual sin has always been widely available, but the glorification of sex between people who are not married to each other often hides deep tragedy and hurt behind the scenes.
When society portrays sexual sin as attractive it is easy to forget the dark side.
God had good reasons for prohibiting sexual sins.He loves us and wants the very best for us.
God was building a Nation to make a positive influence on the world
God did not want the Israelites to adopt the same immoral practices as the rest of the world and slide into despair.
So He prepared them for what they would face in the Promised Land by commanding them to steer clear of sexual sins.
God still commands those who worship Him to steer clear of sexual sin.
And I wonder why so much emphasis on the Commandments God gave concerning gays when He clearly covered every type of sexual sin and gave the same punishment for all of them?
Why do you make it sound as if He only meant this towards Homosexuals and no one else?
All sin has the same consequences which is death and for the Jews it was literally and instantly but for us it could be slow and painful but if we engage in sinful practices we will ultimately end up killing ourselves and going to hell because sin doesn't only lead to a physical death but it also leads to spiritual death and separation from God and we will go to hell because of it.
And no I would not have intervened back then just like I don't intervene now when I see a Homosexual.
If I were to approach a homosexual and tell them that their life style is going to kill them what do you think they would say?
So no I would not interfere I wouldn't say anything just like I don't say anything now.

Dear Neil G,
I commend you on your interest in reading the Bible. Some points of advice that I have found helpful in my studies and search for truth:
1-Read the entire passage (usually at least a chapter or a psalm) in several different versions or "translations". Compare them. The New International Version will read differently than the New American Standard Version or The Message, etc. (My personal favorite is the Comparative Study Bible which contains 4 popular versions in one reference.)
2-Research words or names that you do not know. For example, the passage in the 20th chapter of Leviticus refers to the pagan god Molech. Some research into worship of this god may answer some questions that come up.
3-Try to ascertain the "audience" or people that the passage was written to, for or about. I do believe that all scripture in "useful" for teaching, however, I do believe that we must be especially concerned with the intended message.
4- Try to ascertain the time frame of the written passage. The 20th chapter of Leviticus speaks against many things, some of which are understandable or acceptable to modern day thinking and some of which would not be. For example, Lev 20:18 speaks against a man having sex with his wife while she is on her menstrual cycle and that if this happens, they should both be "cut off from their people". I don't know many Christians who believe this is what God is saying to us today.
5 - Last, but most important, PRAY for understanding. Be encouraged by James 1:5 "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."
God bless you in your search.

I'm sure some Christians would say it is o.k. Haven't you seen those crazy 'God hates fags' people? But then again, are they really Christian? If all that you have to do to get into the kingdom of heaven is to accept that Jesus died on the cross for us and lead a hate filled, bigoted lifestyle then that's a bit of a cop out, isn't it?

God never changes, neither His ways or His character. Those kind of laws were over when He died on the cross. As for the work on the Sabbath is concerned satan had the mean so disorted by the time Jesus lived on the earth that any little thing (spitting on the grass) was work, because it watered the plants. It only goes to prove that satan wants God's laws to be way to hard for people to follow so no one can go to heaven.

You look for a contradiction that does not exist. Because of this I must conclude you wish to show either Judaism or Christianity or both as invalid and even perverse. In reality, both are justified.
God has appointed governments to rule over the people of the earth. Each man is to observe the laws of his government.
Disobedience brings punishment.
Israel was chosen to be God's people because of His plan for all mankind, not because of their worthiness to be chosen. All righteousness comes from God, not man. They were to be His people and in exchange they would follow His guidelines. Immorality was to not be tolerated for it corrupts throughout a society. The guideline they were given was the law. No one was able to live perfectly within the law. Only the most potentially corrupting of practices were punishable by death.
Jesus taught that if we break any of the commands of God in our hearts we are as guilty as if we actually commited the crime. Even one bit of wickedness is enough to seperate us from God. For that reason the only perfect sacrifice was offered to pay for the many atrocities that had been commited.
Those who call upon his name are pronounced righteous because of God's loving grace. We live in the time God appointed which is past the graphic example that had to be made. There is no way to achieve salvation through our own merit. Whether by law or by grace, God is righteous.
Anyone who denies Christ is living within the boundaries of the law.

You are taking Bible verses out of context. Yes, it used to be okay, but now is a different time and the death penalty wasn't JUST for gays. The penalty for all sin was death, but Jesus came and washed this away.
You need to re-read the Bible.

The bible was written by people of that era. Remember, this is the same era that makes women have little rights and slaves common. This is what I say about verses like that, read the Message not just part of the message.

Well, if I was born and raised in that era I probably wouldn't do a thing about it because it's what was thought to be right. But If I actually could go back in time as myself, sure I would stop it... And then I would teach about tolerance for your fellow man and loving and caring for people no matter what their beliefs may be... and then a bunch of people would write about me and make this book and absolutely rapes everything I taught about.
