why are murders and rapists refered to in the same sentence?

murder is horrible and sometimes rape goes with it, yet rape alone(which also is an atrocious crime) does not seem as insidious as murder.

no logic has been placed behind any answers so far. Murder is by far worse then rape. The logic is simple and not disrespectful to women. when someone is murdered they are gone forever with no chance to enjoy life and what it has to offer. I know many girls who have been raped and are living normal lives now, this does not and could not happen with murder victims. Sure a violent rape should be prosecuted as such, a violent battery, but not the same as a murder.

oh and in response to tina, at least if you are a rape victim you have the chance to try and live a normal life, not possibble with a murder victim. And in response to lefty, at least i can ask a rape victim if rape is bad as murder, why dont you ask a murder victim if rape is as bad as murder. why does it seem that the rape psychosis is a problem made worse only in the 19th 20th and 21st century, is it a self fuffilling efficacy?

Murder and rape are classified as henious crimes. Thus, these crimes have basically the same penalties.

You are a man of course.....how did I know. OK, yes murder is terrible. A person is dead, their life cut short. But a violent rape is worse in my opinion. That person (man, woman, or child) has been brutalized, terrified, and hurt in the most degrading way possible. And, they're left alive to deal with fear and pain for the rest of their lives. It's never happened to you so can't know how it feels. No matter how normal they may seem on the outside, a rape victim NEVER forgets what happened and they are NEVER the same as they were before. At least people who are murdered can rest in peace.

I guess this depends on your view of life itself. For some people, especially those that believe in life after death, death is not the final end to it all. They have something after wards, at in most belief systems it is better then any life on earth and it begins immediately.

On the other hand, for people who are of the same frame of thought, rape does not kill the physical body, but can kill whatever "life" someone had before hand. Making the rest of physical life very miserable.

So looking at it from that perspective, they are both very bad...but one kills the physical body - which everyone agrees is bad, and the other kills the psychological body - also bad.

There is "rehabilitation" with both, depending on what you want to believe.

Rape is a heinous violation of a person. It has to do with anger and misogyny and power and violation--and nothing to do with sexual gratification.

Whether rape is a bad as murder is a silly question, and disrespectful to women.

how can you say that murder is worse than rape? they are both awful crimes that hurt alot of people. murder hurts family and friends of the victom but rape hurts the victom directly and if they report it to the police then it also hurts the victoms family and partner, if they have one. both murder and rape are terrible crimes and the offenders deserve to be severly punished
