My kids tell me their bus driver stays on her cell phone..There is no law against it in south carolina. What should I do..I dont like the fact that there are 30 or more kids on a bus and she is worried about her phone instead of their safty.

no they shouldn't. tell the school district. there should be a law against it. i've seen people do stupid things while on their cell phone, i'm sure everyone has. and tell other parents, maybe if a whole bunch of people went to the district it would be more effective.

For starters, I'd be surpised if the school district didn't have a policy against it. Check with the bus garage and see what the rules are. If nothing else, this driver may be breaking the rules of that school district. If there is no rule, you could always consider bringing the matter before the school board. It may be easier to set policy at the school that to get state or local laws enacted.

Many states do have laws specifically regarding school buses, including NORTH Carolina...

However, it's scary to see how many do not. While I would argue a case for cell phones in a private vechile, a driver who is responsible for transporting children on a daily basis shouldn't be using a cell phone unless it is for an emergency.

With school bus drivers, it's not a matter of law, but most importantly a matter of judgment. Regardless of law, school policy will most likely dictate that cell phone usage is not permitted while responsible for the safety of young passengers.

I don't believe that cell phone usage while driving should be illegal, but I DO agree that cell phones are very distracting and distractions can be tragic when children's lives are involved.

I'd suggest finding out from the Superintendent of Schools in your school district what their policy is and, if it's a violation, report it. If it's not a violation, perhaps a visit to the monthly school board meeting would be a good time to introduce a proposal to change it.

School or any bus driver should not be allowed to talk on a cell phone.

No. I would talk with the school district. In my town we have a Bus Barn that is for the Public School district. I would call there and report the driver. I would think that even though there is no law the School District would have rules.

Here in the UK ANY talking on the 'phone while driving is forbidden. The problem is it is difficult to Police, but I would (a) report the driver to the authorities in the first place and (b) insist that the authorities - whichever school or transportation establish such a policy with very strict penalties if abused.

In India, there is a law banning drivers (2 vehicle, car or cab or bus) to talk over cell phone. However, laws are to be broken. There are many drivers talk over the phone while driving the vehicle.

No, it should not be allowed. Start e-mailing your representative in Congress instead of posting on Yahoo! Answers. You could find the right link in five minutes, and pass it along to others.
