"Never has it been clearer how detached President Bush is from the priorities of the American people," Reid said in a statement. "By vetoing a bipartisan bill to renew the successful Children's Health Insurance Program, President Bush is denying health care to millions of low-income kids in America. "

Why is Bush allowed to do this? Because he can.
No one can stop him. The young men and women in the military he has thrown away and now this. Does he remind you of anyone? I can name a few. A certain German comes to mind....

Priority must be given to the health of the children rather than the war efforts in Iraq that was perceived to be an erroneous invasion for weapons of mass destruction with nothing found.

Reid is a deceptive little man. President Bush isn't refusing to "renew" the program. He is refusing to expand it. The solution is simple. Put the renewal in one bill and let the President sign it so the children won't be held hostage. Then put the expansion in a second bill and see if it is still "bi-partisan". If it is and the President veto's the expansion, then they can see if they have the override votes. For the congress not to pass the part that the President will sign and to hold the children hostage to blatant political aims is unconscionable. Ried should be ashamed of himself.

Do you have any clue about the Constitution?
The congress should have a checks and balance too shouldnt it?
The president has the power to veto.
This bill would give gvt money and benefits to people making 80 grand a year. That is why Bush vetoed it. It expanded a program to families that have NO business leeching off the american taxpayer.
If a parent that makes 80 grand doesnt prioritize their childrens healthcare top on their spending list then blame those parents if their kids dont have healthcare, not the president.
80 grand is low income now?
Get the federal gvt out of healthcare!

Ok - I am not a Bush fan but the constitution allows him to do this - and the comparison to a certain German is childish and ridiculous.
If Reid believes he has bipartisan support for this bill be should use that to overturn the veto.
If this proves difficult because the bill has been stuffed with pork - that should be a lesson to both parties.

Socialist propaganda designed to tug at your heart strings while simultaneously demonizing the opposition. It's a classic bait and switch game where they fool you and SUCKER you into falling for the humongous LIE that is socialism. Later on when you are a slave and being whipped you can always exclaim, "don't blame me, I voted for Kodos!"

I just think Bush has no idea what he is doing and what he is vetoing he just listens to whatever the big Corporation executives that gave him the money to become president ("donations") and does it i.e. iraq war so that the one oil company (can't remember the name but Bush "happens" to have lots of stock in it) could monopolize all of the Iraqis' oil wells and have insane profits

Those of you who are in favor of this bill please tell me how I can apply for this aid? I make less than 80,000/year. My health insurance is not the best but I survive.

Reid is a socialist who wants government health care. The majority of people in this country do not want socialized medicine because the government is inefficient, irresponsible, and incompetent. If you want government health care, then move to Canada and leave us alone.
