I have a large bag full of ham pieces left over from when a ham joint was carved. Can anyone suggest a recipe that doesn't involve pastry? I'm not much cop at making pies.

Something that is really easy and good is a ham, potato, and cheese gratin. Just take some boiled potatoes, the pieces or ham, and a cheese sauce. Mix them all together and put them in a baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees until the top is brown and the sauce is bubbling. It's easy and delicious.

Yes you can put them and the bone or joint in a crockpot with a bag of dried black eyed peas. Now there's some good down home food. Or you can chop it up into small pieces and make some stir fried rice with green onions carrots and peas. Yum yum.

Here's a bunch of ideas from Epicurious:

There's always the ubiquitous "bean" or "green" suggestions.

I used to take the entire remaining ham and bone to the charcoal grill and cook it until it had a crispy outside.

Do you like Pea Soup?- Ham pieces in pea soup are delicious. They're ALSO good fried up in Scrambled Eggs; AND mixed in and fried up with cut green Bell Peppers & Onions... Good stuff! :)

Take just a few pieces and place them in a crockpot full of white beans, or black eyed peas.. Freeze the rest for more wonderful beans.

Great Question...
