If a radical Christian based society asked you to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior or die....would you be willing to give your life for what you believe in?

Plus they would have you sent to camps where you would worship on a daily basis until you were completely taken on the idea that God exists.

I'm no athiest, but if I was asked to convert to another religion, or die - I would sooner die. I love my Jesus, and I would sooner go through any trial then have to give up his undying love for me, and his peace and strength he gives me. If I didn't have my Jesus, I would rather be gone anyhow.

Die for the lack of belief in gods? No way. Being a "martyr for atheism" would be idiotic. I'd argue my position but if it came down to it I'd lie about my beliefs (or lack of in theirs).

Seriously though, what would dieing because you're too stubborn to appear to conform to a totalitarianist society acheive? Now, if you were making a statement that would be guaranteed to have an impact that'd be different. Personally though, I doubt it'll ever come to that.

As for the camps, I'm not sure. I could probably keep a somewhat Christian front up for the people who need to see it. I'm pretty good at not showing the fact that I'm gay so I've had enough practice ;) Lying's easy enough if it's to protect yourself.

It might be worth remembering that throughout the centuries, atheists and dissenters HAVE died for their beliefs, or lack of beliefs.

It's all very well to poke sticks and stones at each other here on Y!A, but it's also good to remember that the freedoms we enjoy to have our own views of life, religion and the state were all hard fought and won by people of the past who sacrified all they had ~ including their lives, to give us those rights.

Would I die for my beliefs? I don't know, and I doubt anyone can REALLY know what they would do if it came to it. I hope I could be brave and honest, but in the face of what horror? I'm not sure I could be a martyr, it's not for everyone. It's one thing saying what you'd do from the comfort of your computer keyboard, it's quite another being tortured by professionals.

Yet through the centuries people on both sides of this argument have done just that, so we have the freedom to insult each other in this forum.

Cheers :-)

Depends on how radical. Saying that I believe in some mythical being is neither here nor there. However, if they started executing others for their beliefs and expected me to condone their actions, as they probably would, I would much rather die. I couldn't live with myself in a society like that.

I would die for my freedom - yes! And what are you trying to saying about the brainwashing camps that would be set up for us? You think that brainwashed people would have been allowed this free will Christians say we have by such actions? Are Christians not secure in there believes of the evidence they claim proves God exists to give intelligent argument to allow people to decide for themselves? No offense but did you actually think about this before, as it just seems like someone who is so desperate to want to have people FORCED to believe in fairy tales that it's idiotic.

Let's put it this way: I'll never be a theist without evidence for it existing. I never lie - but to save my life I would. I can trick the society that I have a belief (but I'll just be feigning belief). Then I'd go to Sweden or something where atheists are the majority.

I would do whatver it takes to survive. Survival is an undeniable, innate, genetic, and instictual drive. In this case, just because I say "ok; I accept the lord Jesus Christ as my savior," doesn't mean that's what I believe and practice. A belief is internal, and only I know what I truely believe.

Yes, I will live free or die.

EDIT: I've had this argument with other Atheists before. If it has come down to being forced into a religion or face death, it is time to stand up and take our country back (way before then but I am staying in the context of this question). To accept any tyranny is to accept all tyranny.

Yes, I would... I would fight in a resistance if needed but if captured and forced to either profess belief or die, I would die before I claimed to believe in something I did not believe in.

I believe most Christians would cave before denying god.

If I do die because of my beliefs I'm taking some Christians with me.

Peace.
