Is the box too full? Cats have been known to go elsewhere if their box gets too full or dirty. Something might have been blocking it, or maybe the cat just had diarrhea.

Could just be that the cat wanted a change of scenery though.

She could have a UTI (urinary tract infection) Cat's often go to the bathroom somewhere the owner will see it, to get there attention, which is the case more often than not.

Maybe she doesn't like her cat litter or feel that it's adequate in doing what she feels it needs to do. Don't use the kind of litter that's kinda ruck, and chunky. Use the kind that clumps well, so that when you do clean it, it doesn't just sift thru the cat scooper, maybe that's why she's acting that way. Try and clean it atleast every other day, if not everyday.

Where do you have her litter box, maybe she's not happy with where it's at. She may possibly feel that she's not getting enough privacy. I usually recommend the litter boxes that have a topper on them, instead of just the pan ones. Have it in a room where there aren't usually people all the time, if that's possible, and no where near her food, cats or anyone for that matter don't want to go to the bathroom, where their food is.

Oh and for the person who said, smack them and rub their nose in it....THAT'S JUST FRIGGIN RETARDED AND ABUSIVE. As far as your cat is concerned, she didn't do anything wrong, and if you smack her, she doesn't understand that she's not suposed to do that. All that will do is make her resent you and fearful. Plus, cats and any animal, their noses are super sensitive, and you could harm their scent responses and even make them sick, poo is toxic, that's why we all excrete it.

Perhaps for the person who said to smack them and rub their nose in it, maybe we should bust you upside your head and then rub your face in your s-h-i-t every time you make a mistake and see if you like it!!!!! Sorry, I get pissed everytime I hear some one say crap like that!

could be a millon things! DO NOT PUT HER NOSE OR FACE INTO POO! You can place her face near it/next to it, where she can smell it and swatt her on the butt, put placing her face in it can give her disentary and all sorts of other health issues.
cats are such odd little creatures. She could have been mad at u, she could have had an upset tummy , been sleeping woke up and had to go NOW and just couldn't make it to the box. She could have devoloped an allergy to the littler, u should check her paws and hind quaters for any irritated spots, if u see any change your brand of litter immediatly, throw out any litter in the box wipe it out with soap and water and take her to the vet for some ointment for her ouchies, or a shot as the vet feels best. she could have a UTI or any number of health issues. for a cat sometime having a cold can make them feel icky enough to not use the box .
has anything in your home changed? new work schedule, more or less people in the house? that can effect a kittys bathroom habbits, as some of them do not handle change well.
is she spayed ? spayed cats are less likely to have accidents.
most likely it is a one time or sometimes thing. really just watch her. make sure she is eating a drinking properly, watch her in the box see if she looks like she is strainging or going alot, no allergies or stress . Make sure the box is scooped often, also putting a thin, even layer of baking soda in the box helps absorb oder. if none of those things apply she was being a bad kitty or just had an accident.

It might have been a one time accident. Is her box clean and fresh? Does she have her food in the same room as the litter box? Cats don't like that very much.
As soon as she's done eating next time, immediatly take her to her box. She might also just need a reminder. Good Luck.

My cat did the same EXACT thing except it was ON my bed. I took her to the vet and she had something wrong with her urinary track.

They say if your cat feels pain using the restroom then they usually associate the pain with the litter box. Therefore causing them to not want to use it.

She wasn't seriously sick but bad enough they put her on meds. But after she got better she was back to using the box again.

Take her to the vet and she will be just fine :)

Any type of radical behavioral change like this should be checked by a veterinarian to preclude the possibility of a physical problem. If there is nothing wrong with her health, then the issue is behavioral and there can be any number of reasons why she chose today to do this.

Something you can do right now is to put a large, metallic object beneath your bed. Cats despise the feel of metal against their pads, but you should be aware that she may select another spot to defecate if the source isn't physical.

rubbing their nose in it and/or smacking them does not do any good and can in fact make them fearful of you or resentful. There can be any number of reasons for her behavior,. my first couple of guesses would be that the litter was not as clean as she would have liked or that possibly where her litter box was was too noisy or busy at the time she needed to use it. Did she accidentally get stuck in your room when she had to go?? If she went under the bed then to me that is saying that she was not doing this out of any kind of anger or territory problems..only that she did not want to use the box at the particular moment that she had to go. Clean her litter box, make sure it is in a low traffic quiet type spot that she has access to at all times. I have one that refuses to use the box unless there is a night light on..so maybe it was too dark for her. Just think about it in terms of if it were you..would you like to use the toilet out in the middle of a busy hall, or in a dark damp basement..or even if the toilet were dirty..I know I wouldn't.

try scooping the catbox everyday or everyother day. But just to be sure there is nothing wrong wtih her take her to the vet and have her checked out. She may have a UTI or something else. just let your vet know what she did.

i dont recommend hitting and rubbing her nose in it unless u caught her in the act! otherwise she wont understand why. her brain is really small ok? lol
