The high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God."

"Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. "But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."

Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?"

"He is worthy of death," they [not "the crowds" this time, but the teachers of law and the Sanhedrin] answered. (Matthew 26: 63-66)

Two thousand years ago son of God, entered Jerusalem on the first day of the week, and was greeted with joy by a populace that was throbbing with messianic hopes. For almost two thousand years since then, that day has been celebrated by Christians as Palm Sunday.

Probably called him an infidel. Maybe banished him from the jewish community. I wasn't there, and can only go by what I learned. I learned that Jesus NEVER claimed to be the son of god, but never denied it, either. I also learned that he was a respected rabbi in the jewish community of the time. The descendants of those that followed his teaching eventually became to be known as christians.

They tried to stone Him because they understood He was claiming to be God.

Unfortunately, so many people are so blind to the fact that Jesus is God. This why in 1Peter 4:14 it says If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you. On their part HE IS BLASPHEMED, BUT ON YOUR PART HE IS GLORIFIED.

They tried to stone Jesus because they say he was BLASPHEMING, CLAIMING TO BE GOD. But oh, Pharisees He is God!!
